Grignon ownership inscription on the half-title of Jules-Emile du Pressoir. An excellent copy. First edition the first French monograph on platinum. The author who published this book anonymously compiles the available information and studies by other natural historians before describing the metal’s properties: its weight ductility reactivity and interaction with fire. The rest of the text supplies the results of his own experiments with platinum including treating it with different salts and acids crystallization combining it with other metals and alloys and cupellation. The final chapter transcribes a curious anonymous letter about the alchemical applications of platinum.
