After inscribing the book the author bequeathed this copy to her son Dr. Stuart Macdonald who presented this volume to the nursing superintendent at the Toronto hospital where he worked. In turn the nurse gave this copy to "Aunt Amy" who chronicled the book's ownership history in her inscription. Aunt Amy gifted this book and additionally inscribed it to Franie. Franie passed the book down to the step-mother of the most recent owner. The personal nature of this volume's provenance emphasizes the rareness of a signed copy of this title. The author's inscription relates to Elizabeth Withington's eight illustrated plates including one frontispiece. The earliest editions of Anne of Green Gables contain illustrations by W. A. J. and M. A. Claus. All three artists were painters working with a variety of mediums meaning their works had to be copied by printers for mass reproduction. By 1925 the printer's plates of Claus' work had been used to the point that they were no longer producing clear images. Rather than making new plates from the original Claus illustrations Withington created new original illustrations for the subsequent printings. Although the choice of illustrator was likely made by the publisher Montgomery's inscription which is accompanied with a small cat silhouette illustration implies she was rather fond of Withington's artwork. File copy belonging to the film's director Ken Hughes with a typescript note tipped on to the title page requesting its return to the director and noting it is the only script in existence for the film. <br/><br/>Peter Finch delivers a strong performance as the inimitable author Oscar Wilde in this film about Wilde's sodomy trial after his affair with Lord Alfred Douglas lifted in large part from the historical court records. One of two films about Wilde released in May of 1960 the other being director Gregory Ratoff's "Oscar Wilde." In order to compete with the other Wilde film production on "The Trials of Oscar Wilde" was made in only nine weeks from start to finish with filming wrapping a mere two weeks before the London opening. Composer Ron Goodwin was recording music before scenes were filmed most scenes were filmed in one take and four editing rooms were set up working in parallel during principal photography in order to deal with the rushed timeline. <br/><br/>Shot on location in England. <br/><br/>Green wrappers with a typescript title label. Signed on the title page in blue ink by the film’s star Henry Silva using his name as well as that of his character Johnny Cool. Accompanying is the screenplay creation archive belonging to the film’s producer Milton Ebbins consisting of 335 pages of drafts and rewrites used in creating the screenplay consisting of original ribbon typescript carbon typescript and typed pasteups. With extensive pencil rewrites corrections and commentary about the direction of the screenplay on many of the pages. Very good condition. Considered one of the classics of neo Film Noir the film was directed by William Asher and starred Henry Silva in the title role Elizabeth Montgomery Richard Anderson Jim Backus Joey Bishop Sammy Davis Jr. and Telly Savalas. The film tells the story of the lives and loves of Italian and American gangsters. A very strange and usual crime film that is even more remarkable in that director William Asher is best remembered for previously directing the largest number of episodes 107 of the great comedy classic - I Love Lucy. Filming Johnny Cool was a 180 degree turn for the director. An amazing archive showing in detail the details and lengths that were taken to craft the screenplay and such a collection is rarely found dealing with a significant film. A presentable copy of Lucy Maud Montgomery's eighth book signed by Montgomery on the front endpaper. Her Boston publisher L. C. Page had refused to consider publishing her poems. This is the first of this Canadian author's writings to appear from a Canadian publisher and is dedicated "to the memory of the gallant Canadian soldiers". The title poem "The Watchman" was read at Montgomery's funeral. One of the more difficult of her books to obtain in decent condition. There is just a trace of rubbing to the spine and very scattered foxing. Blue cloth binding stamped in gilt which has darkened. Very Good binding / no dust jacket. The unbound script largely yellow and blue revision pages dated 7/16 through 8/3 1962 is predominantly a carbon typescript with several ribbon typescript pages both on onionskin and 27 mimeograph duplication pages with a single dialogue annotation on page 26-A and page and scene number annotations on all mimeograph pages in holograph ink. The partial script dated 8/7 through 8/14 is a carbon typescript on on pink onionskin with a typed note "Last Half of Script sent to uncredited producer or crewmember Joe Wiseman" attached to the first page by a clip.<br/><br/>The "Scene Breakdown" is an undated 83 page carbon typescript on onionskin with a single dialogue annotation in holograph pencil likely screenwriter Joseph Landon's initial but extensive treatment. <br/><br/>The collections of revision pages include an eight page carbon typescript "Giordano Mountain Meeting" scene dated 7-18-62 on yellow onionskin. Three copies of a four page carbon typescript on pink onionskin "Notes on Five Victims" dated 8/7 with a handwritten note on purple paper attached by paper clip of "8/7 - Notes on Five Victims Third Rewrite." 46 pages of revisions ranging from page 3 through page 47-A dated 8/17 all on pink paper except for one mimeographed white page 28 of which are on pink onionskin with 36 pages carbon typescript nine ribbon typescript with annotations regarding dialogue motivation plot and strikes in holograph pencil and ink on 17 of the pages. The last collection of revision pages are 29 pink pages all but one are mimeograph duplication dated 10/10/62 five of which are page 124-A including the first page which is carbon typescript on onionskin noted as "Added Scene" by director "Bill Asher" with annotations in holograph pencil and ink the remainder are eight copies of pages 124 125 and 125A. <br/><br/>Lastly is a contact sheet of eleven images with top left image removed five of director William Asher on set three with Henry Silva with the remaining six of a bearded and heavily made-up Silva on the set.<br/><br/>Based on the 1959 Gold Medal paperback crime novel "The Kingdom of Johnny Cool" by John McPartland about an exiled American mobster who sends an Italian outlaw to the US to assassinate his enemies. <br/><br/>Set in Italy New York City and Hollywood shot on location in Southern California. <br/><br/>Bound Script:<br/><br/>Blue titled wrappers. 193291Various places 1932. Very good. Seventy-five items plus six small notebooks and one folio scrapbook. Some wear and soiling to a few items but condition generally clean and quite good. Extensive archive of transit information for the cities of Lima Peru and Santiago Chile compiled by traffic expert M.T. Montgomery of Lancaster Pennsylvania. Based near Lima Montgomery gathered information on bus rail chauffeur and rail-less trolley travel. Included here are manuscript notes and recommendations typed reports his pocket notebooks travel ephemera printed tracts and booklets and more. A repurposed ledger serves as a scrapbook holding 120 pages of Spanish-language newspaper clippings documenting traffic conditions and issues. The archive contains about thirty-five pieces of travel-related ephemera -- bus tickets calling cards transit passes -- from Montgomery's time in South America. There is a large broadsheet advertising the fiestas for Carnaval complete with a map of the festivities on the back. . Also present is a blueprint plan of Lima showing the omnibus service routes in 1927 and a mimeographed study on the bus service between Santiago and San Bernardo. In his work Montgomery points out the traffic chaos in the region and the associated difficulty of making profit under the current rate for fares. He provides a list of recommendations for ameliorating the situation including "All taxis until further notice will work only 20 days per month which will reduce the vehicles on the streets ." Other memos include "High Spots of Improvements Made in Tramway Service in Cordoba - Mendoza - Santa Fe - Tucuman & Parana"; "Personal Views Regarding Points Discussed at Tramway Managers Meeting"; and "A Few Facts about Schedules: One Man's Opinion." He also recommends that businesses building factories in South America not hire Latin American managers lest they lose control of their customer base. Montgomery appears to have been worried about the threat of Communism as well as there are a handful of manuscripts and pamphlets documenting the dangers of that political bent. A wonderful trove of information on an unusual subject giving the perspective of an American specialist on the issues of traffic and transportation in South America. unknown books
1943WRCLIT75412Washington Providence Montauk etc. 1943. Thirteen pages on six quarto and octavo lettersheets one folded to quarter panels. Three in ink one in pencil. Folded for mailing otherwise fine accompanied by two envelopes addressed in his hand hastily torn open at one end. Four substantial boisterous opinionated and occasionally inebriated letters from Flagg to Willis Birchman addressed variously as "Kid" "Country Gentlemen" "Dear Temperamental Meringue" and "Will Bill" who became one of Flagg's frequent correspondents as a consequence of Birchman having featured Flagg in his 1937 book FACES & FACTS BY AND ABOUT 26 CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS. One letter 4pp. in ink on letterhead of the Providence Biltmore consists of an account of a rather Cutty Sark driven meeting with "Cecil" likely film star Cecil Humphreys with whom he had a long association. Another letter 4pp. written on letterhead of Montauk Manor at Montauk Beach is in pencil and opens with an attractive pencil drawing of a beach scene with cars parked and facing out over the ocean; it relates chiefly to the circumstances of his stay at Montauk and is signed "Cap. Kidd." Another letter 4pp in ink on letterhead of the Hotel Raleigh relates to events surrounding a vague series of meetings in Washington DC involving representatives of the Australian and British governments stops at embassies a meeting with Sumner Welles etc. The last letter dated simply Friday 2pp. in ink is somewhat diffuse but mentions a pending trip to Washington and meetings there perhaps anticipating the stay mentioned in the letter above. Flagg 1877 - 1960 was in his time one of the most prolific and popular of American artists and illustrators. His best known work was one of the most widely distributed recruitment posters for the US military: the iconic image of Uncle Sam captioned "I Want YOU for U.S. Army" unknown books

Illus. b/w print <br/><br/>"Michael Jackson was preparing his 'DANGEROUS' album & was looking for one production company to oversee all the short films this is what he called music videos documentaries TV and pretty much anything having to do with film plus an image revamp. Propaganda Films began talks with his managers GALLIN/MOREY. Eventually myself and Ute Leonhardt began meetings with MJ & his team. In one meeting Michael seemed overwhelmed with the complexity of all the different projects he would be working on during the next few years & blurted out in a moment of frustration: 'I wish I had a blueprint for my life'. At this stage Propaganda had not officially been selected. The job of producing all his projects was a massive undertaking and everyone in town was jockeying for the position. So I took it upon myself after consulting with my partners Joni Sighvattson and Steve Golin to employ an artist who iIhad worked with on many occasions to make a chart based on Egyptian Hieroglyphs which would categorize in a schedule everything MJ had happening in the next few years. Awest & I worked none stop for three or four days eventually taking it to a blueprinting shop in LA. the large version of the finished product was on display in my next meeting with Michael.he LOVED it Propaganda was awarded the job & I went on to work with him for almost two years." Copy belonging to special effects personnel Paul Stewart with his name on the title page and annotations throughout in holograph ink. Stewart is notable for having also worked on "Fat City" 1972 "The Exterminator" 1980 "Heaven's Gate 1980 "Predator" 1987 "Thelma and Louise" 1991 and "Planet of the Apes" 2001. <br/><br/>Two brothers vacation to a small Southern town only to find most of the inhabitants have turned into bloodthirsty zombies due to toxic waste.
