A pocket-sized tourist brochure advertising the Fuji New Grand Hotel on the shores of Lake Yamanaka. <br> <br>The Fuji New Grand a sister to the New Grand Hotel in Yokohama is said to have opened to much fanfare in 1936 and served as a popular retreat during the interwar years becoming the secondary subject of many atmospheric depictions of Mount Fuji. Following the war alongside her Yokohama sister she was requisitioned by SCAP and converted into a retreat for Allied personnel though following the occupation was unable to reclaim her former glory. The Fuji New Grand was ultimately closed and demolished in the 1970s. . unknown

Second Edition originally published under the slightly different title Famous Recipes of Famous People and issued by the Hotel del Monte without Sunset Magazine in 1936. A compilation of celebrity recipes with the recipes attributed to the famous including: Gertrude Stein John Steinbeck Walt Disney J. Edgar Hoover Rube Goldberg and many others. Also includes a section of recipes of well-known chefs of the day with a bias toward California Hotels and the west in general as well as a short section of recipes from the Hotel Del Monte. The playful illustrations by Sinclair Ross alternately reference Hollywood and the frontier West. Endpapers reproduce the autographs of many of the celebrities featured in the book. Publisher's gilt-decorated cream-colored boards near fine. In clean and bright yellow dust jacket printed in blue and orange but with several good-sized chips to the front and rear panels. A few negligible spots to the lower-left margin of the front cover spine reinforced with tape contents remarkably well-preserved and without blemish; very good. Unrecorded in OCLC. Rare and charming pre-war Manitobiana. <br/><br/>¶ The delightful and rare surviving menu from the inaugural meal served on Christmas Day at the historic Royal Hotel located at 207 First Avenue Binscarth Municipality of Russell-Binscarth. Construction of the hotel began in 1904 for the hotelier Robert Murdock 1852-1919 to replace an earlier wood-frame building. Originally a three-storey structure the first floor comprised of an office dining room and bar room. On the second floor were twelve bedrooms a parlour and smoking room. Dinner menu for Hotel Taft dated for Monday March 12 1945 which features a pictorial of Vincent Lopez and His Orchestra on the front. Signed and inscribed by Victor Lopez on the front. <br /> <br /> Antiqued cardpaper with dark red ink on the front and on the list of cocktails on the rear flap; black ink on the inside. Attached to the top of the inside left side are two laid-in tickets announcing daily drink specials: an orange blossom cocktail and a glass of Tokay wine. Full lobster dinner promoted on the inside on the rear flap for $3.00!. <br /> <br /> Touch of age-toning to menu edges and a few faint wrinkles to the paper. "New York / March 10 1945" written in slightly smeared black ink to front. A few light stains. Vincent Lopez 1895-1975 was a Latin/Jazz entertainer and big band leader who brought his Jazz sound to the radio audience on WJZ in New York starting in 1921. He performed in residency at Hotel Taft from 1941 to 1966. Noted musicians who played in his band included Artie Shaw Xavier Cugat Jimmy Dorsey Tommy Dorsey Bob Effros Mike Mosiello Fred Lowery Joe Tarto and Glenn Miller. <br /> <br /> From a 1954 music critic: "Wednesdays through Fridays Vincent Lopez had everybody howling at the Hotel Taft's Grill Room in New York City with his 'Shake the Maracas' show. People came from miles around to participate and compete for miniature piano lighters and a set of maracas and to hear Vincent Lopez utter that famous line on the microphone like he did at WJZ over 30 years earlier .'Lopez Speaking.' The hotel famously withstood several catastrophic earthquakes and the Second World War due in part to its interlocking design until it was finally demolished in 1967. This collection of postcards represent the hotel's interior and exterior at its prime.
