Maris. In this installment the owner of an archery range is charged with killing his psychologist after the latter is found murdered with an arrow sticking out of his chest. <br /> <br /> Screenwriter Robert Bloch is best known for penning Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" 1959 although his six-decade writing career encompassed novels short stories radio cinema and television. A protégé of H.P. Lovecraft Bloch received the Hugo Award the Bram Stoker Award and the World Fantasy Award and served as the president of the Mystery Writers of America in 1970. <br /> <br /> Orange titled wrappers dated 29 July 1960 on the front wrapper with credit for Bloch. This little book tells the story of Carl Rollins Hammonds. Having grown small breasts as a teenager Hammonds worked as "half-man/half-woman" as a carnival dancer under the name Hedy Jo Star. Estrogen began to change her appearance more radically and in 1955 "I changed my sex" first appeared. In 1962 she underwent full gender reassignment surgery and this paperback edition appeared the following year. Includes messages from organizational officers portraits of officers news from local California chapters and a section of "National News" including anecdotes of successful African Americans and Black involvement in government programs and the army during the lead up to World War II i.e.: "A Negro technician graduate of Stanford University is employed by an Aircraft plant in Los Angeles" and "A conference at the White House.reveals that: 1. Negro units would be organized in all branches of the Army." We locate ten scattered issues published between 1938 and 1966 at the Bancroft library but not this issue and a single issue again not this issue but the next one--Vol XI number II at New York Public Library. He is currently in the final year of his 3-year project THX-1138 a science fiction film which is no 2001 and not Planet of the Apes." Jeff Berner<br /> <br /> First and only issue of this ill-fated magazine that sought to cover film projects and media techniques in the San Francisco Bay area. I suppose by luck of location George Lucas and his THX-1138 were given the first two pages. The 24 year old Lucas provides cinematography details on the film as well as his thoughts on the state of film in general. The interveiw by Jeff Berner also includes Lucas' hope to do a "Viet war" film titled Apocalypse Now as well as a rock musical about 1954. While tracking the history of early Lucas interviews is rather difficult this magazine is one of if not the earliest interview of his career. Lucas was initially set to direct Apocalypse Now 1979 / Martin Sheen but the reigns were handed over to producer Francis Ford Coppola after the success of Star Wars and the obvious unavailability of Lucas. An important early but post-School interview with Lucas on his projects and career.
