Lon Chaney in full yellowface murders his daughter after discovering she loves the son of a British diplomat then seeks revenge on son and his the entire family. <br/><br/>Anna May Wong who has a small role in the film was originally considered for the role of the daughter but censorship of mixed race relationships on the screen caused the role going to a white actress a sadly all-too-familiar story in her career. Wong would leave Hollywood for Europe the following year after once again being denied the lead role in a film because of her race this time in "The Crimson City."<br/><br/>Tan titled wrappers rubber-stamped copy No. 543 and production No. 1589 dated Nov. 13 1926 with credits for story writer Louise Jordan Miln and screenwriter Lorna Moon. Item is in very good condition but has not been examined out of shrink wrap. Print has light wear to all edges and the top right corner is missing a small piece of the board behind the canvas. Print measures 14" by 17 1/2" and depicts a rider on horseback in a desert landscape. Karl Moon has signed the print in the lower left corner in black ink. Karl Moon was a painter photographer and illustrator who operated a photo studio in Albuquerque New Mexico until 1907 and made pictorial studies of Native Americans in the region. Moon's system was easy to master particularly for those who had learned to read before losing their sight and it became very successful. She wrote many of Pickford's most famous and memorable silent films as well as many other of the great successful pictures of the 1920s and 1930s and has been credited with writing 300 scripts and over 130 produced films. Her influence resurrected the career of Marie Dressler and resulted in her greatest glory and her scripts for Marion Davies are among the most memorable of that actress' oeuvre. Stapled wraps. bound with a single staple in the center of the spine age-browned and somewhat fragile due to cheap pulp paper but otherwise in quite nice shape with just one little tear at the rear hinge and a diagonal section across the top corner of the front cover that's a little extra-browned. advertisements 12-page advertising handout touting the many excellent and duty-free bargains to be had by "Mr. Tourist" in the fine shopping emporia just over the border in Tijuana. Issued with "the approval of the Tijuana National Chamber of Commerce" the array of goods advertised in its pages runs the gamut: Oriental rugs lounging robes briar pipes cashmere sweaters French perfumes German cameras silk and rayon pajamas Swiss watches and more! The entire issue consists of advertisements except for the editorial/advisory matter explaining among other things the $100 limitation on goods to be taken back into the U.S. which appears on the front page under the headline "Tijuana Offers the Best Merchandise" and promises that the reader/shopper will find in the city "a veritable Exposition of articles from all parts of the world which can be obtained at prices astoundingly low." There are large ads for Mexicali Beer advising the buyer to accept no imitations and to "have bottles opened in your presence" a bookstore called "Cultura" offering "Spanish translations of the best foreign writers" the Original Caesar's Cafe and Restaurant and of course a couple of marriage and divorce bureaus. An ephemeral publication if there ever was one and the survival of a never-been-folded example is all the more remarkable; an OCLC search turns up absolutely nothing although it's entirely possible that there are special collections holdings in Mexico or elsewhere of this publication. 1971137953Beverly Hills CA: United Artists 1971. Vintage black-and-white studio still photographs from the 1971 "surrealist documentary" rock film. The still depicts composer/screenwriter Frank Zappa conducting and singing. <br/><br/>In 1970 Zappa completely re-formed the Mothers of Invention to include drummer Aynsley Dunber jazz keyboardist George Duke and three members of The Turtles. Zappa began to write a film for the new lineup and recorded "Chunga's Revenge" 1970 with them as a "preview." Subsequently Zappa met conductor Zubin Mehta and worked with him to produce a concert in May 1970 wherein the Los Angeles Philharmonic was augmented by the Mothers or vice versa as you like and referred to this as "the second preview." <br/><br/>The film itself shot in a week at Pinewood Studios outside London was a tripped-out documentary about life as a musician on the road and Zappa characteristically chose an eclectic group of celebrities to join the proceedings including Theodore Bikel Ringo Starr and Keith Moon. The resulting soundtrack is a matter of debate among Zappa enthusiasts but is notable for its orchestral finale "Strictly Genteel" a touchstone for the variety of classical music experimentations Zappa would subsequently pursue. <br/><br/>8 x 10 inches. This work is a Limited Edition 1/500 and is signed by all three authors Bill McKibben Terry Tempest Williams and William Least Heat-Moon on the final page. Laid-in at the front is a photograph of Terry Tempest Williams which is signed/inscribed by Williams. This item is scarce in the trade. - From the collection of Cuthbert Christian Thambimuttu 1945-2019 of Columbus Ohio - known to many of his bookseller author and illustrator friends as "Tubby." He was persistent in the pursuit of autographed books by the writers and artists he admired including Gorey Sendak Heaney Byatt Morrison Updike and many more. Frontis portrait. 24 poems and two short plays by Moon Kwan a native of China who attended USC in Los Angeles and UC Berkeley. Along the way he befriended Witter Bynner to whom one of the poems is addressed and George Sterling who wrote the introduction to the plays among other members of the literati and he worked as a technical advisor to D. W. Griffith on his film Broken Blossoms or The Yellow Man and the Girl. Kwan returned to Hong Kong in the 1930s where he worked in the film industry.
