Superbly bound by Kieffer in full brown crushed morocco with a beautiful blossom and leaf design featuring multiple brown light green and ochre inlaid parts on both covers and spine. Wide dentelles with similar gilt patterning stunning patterned and colored doublures and free flies on silk fabric. For this edition comprising copies numbered 61 to 300 the illustrations were printed using a novel and effective color etching process. This method involves printing from etched plates with colored inks resulting in vibrant watercolor-like images that provide a pastel-like appearance due to the printing technique itself. The book is literally filled with wonderful illustrations and border designs. The binding covers and spine are in fine condition. Foxing present internally due to acid paper used in this production. Both joints could use attention. RenÈ Kieffer 1875ñ1964 renowned French bookbinder and publisher is known for his richly decorated Art Nouveau and Art Deco bindings. He trained under Marius Michel before establishing his own bindery in Paris in 1903. Kieffer is celebrated for his use of fine leather gilt tooling and innovative inlay techniques producing bindings for bibliophile editions and literary works. Book covers and spine are fine. Foxing present due to acid paper used in this production. Both joints could use attention. Housed in a superb morocco-lined slipcase featuring paper-covered boards with an attractive and matching to the binding color scheme and providing a textured grain. A. Ferroud unknown
