196845270Milan: Olivetti 1968. Near fine. First edition of these twelve brilliantly colored Folon illustrations for the first Olivetti desk calendar mounted on heavy cardstock with Soavi's biographical essay. Rare set reproducing watercolor illustrations by the Belgian-born artist produced for the first desk calendar issued by Olivetti with graphic design by Enzo Mari. Folon initially trained as an architect and later illustrator of Kafka Bradbury and Borges worked in a wide variety of media over his career: poster design silkscreen etchings mosaic murals animation and the watercolors reproduced here in his highly recognizable signature style. After a difficult beginning the Fondation Folon records: "1960: Shows his first drawings to people in his milieu. In France nobody is interested" Folon soon found an enthusiastic reception for his drawings in US magazines publishing in the pages and on the covers of ESQUIRE THE NEW YORKER TIME THE ATLANTIC MONTHLY and others. In 1966 he was awarded the Certificate of Merit by the Art Directors Club of New York and in 1969 he had his first exhibition in that city. Folon's association with Olivetti art director Giorgi Soavi began just a few years earlier and the two would produce a number of collaborations over the following decades. <br /> OCLC locates just two institutional holdings. A beautiful and bright set. 10'' x 8.5''. 13 cards of which 12 have color reproductions of Folon watercolors on rectos. Soavi's essay "VITA ANCHE SENTIMENTALE DI J.M.
