Cloth backed boards good with some rubbing and wear to boards light wear to cloth contents very good and clean light tanning. 463 pp. The author was a medieval French Jewish philosopher Talmudist mathematician physician and astronomer/astrologer. His most important treatise that by which he has a place in the history of philosophy is entitled Sefer Milhamot Ha-Shem "The Wars of the Lord" and occupied twelve years in composition 1317–1329. A portion of it containing an elaborate survey of astronomy as known to the Arabs was translated into Latin in 1342 at the request of Pope Clement VI. The Wars of the Lord is modeled after the plan of the great work of Jewish philosophy the Guide for the Perplexed of Maimonides. It may be regarded as a criticism of some elements of Maimonides' syncretism of Aristotelianism and rabbinic Jewish thought. Text IN HEBREW. Carl B. Lorck hardcover

His own convictions also agree with the requirement." - Preface. Three reasons are then given 1. The early history of Methodism had lost so many accounts of the power of God shown in those days; 2. Elizabeth's account is too rare and too far back in American Methodism to allow its loss; The controversy with the "horrible decrees" of Calvinism is not finished and this record is and example of overcoming them.The author is Rev. Ebenezer Arnold 1816-1900 the son of Elizabeth Ward Arnold 1778-1865 the subject of the story. It is the account of a woman born to a well-to-do Connecticut family of Calvinistic beliefs her conversion to Methodism and the resulting rejection and disinheritance by her family. She marries moves to western Massachusetts and begins prayer meetings and evangelism with her neighbors. Eventually the couple moves to a new colony near Volney New York with her husband becoming a Methodist preacher. She had four sons three of whom became Methodist ministers. Book of Jewish legal deeds and contracts and law first publishedin Amsterdam in 1667. According to the Jewish Encyclopedia "in 1660 he was rabbi of Bamberg with his residence at Zeckendorf. His stay here was of short duration for he made many enemies through his violent temper and the self-assertion which he displayed in his new office; and it was in vain that his relative and subsequent successor warned him that he would endanger his position if he did not heed the views of the German scholars." Sometime around 1665 he resigned the rabbinate and had the time to compose this book. "Samuel's chief work to which he owes his general popularity appeared in Amsterdam 1667-68 under the title "Na alat Shib'ah" being a collection of formulas for all documents and records interspersed with thorough discussions of questions of civil and matrimonial laws in connection therewith. A second edition of this work with much supplementary matter appeared Frankfort-on-the-Main 1681 shortly before his death under the title "Mahadura Batra le-Sefer Na alat Shib'ah." This reprint was part of the private library of Henry J. Grund who turned the book into a traditional library book library markings on spine his name stamped on bottom edge sticker and card affixed on rear endpapers etc. Mr. Grund had a plan to offer his large collection of Ohio books in his home for reading or withdrawal. Visitors could read certain books in his library and if offered by Grund could withdraw specific books and keep until assigned due dates Thus his library markings. Mr. Grund died before he could develop his private library plan further. Condition: Overall light age toning and Very Good. Text is clean and very readable.
