1891015023Wash. D. C.: GPO 1891. This is a very good hardcover copy that has been rebound by a private collector in maroon cloth covers with title in gilt on the spine and clean white endpapers. Closed tear to one text page. Originally released as the 8th annual report of the Bureau of American Ethnology the long piece by Victor Mindeleff on Pueblo Architecture was removed and rebound as a separate book. The contents are generally very clean but a few tan spots and some offsetting to title page and last page of index. Illustrated in black & white with maps line drawings engravings etc. Bibliography. Some pages uncut. A very nice usable copy with a firm binding. 12" high X 8" wide 298 pages. Large heavy book foreign shipping will be extra. 1880A45342Boston MA: William R. Ware / J. R. Osgood. 1880. Hardcover. Good. c1880. This is a portfolio of plates which accompany his treatise on Modern Perspective. This is a folio sized portfolio of brown cloth with three cloth ties at the edges. The portfolio is in Good condition with wear rubbing and beginning fraying to the spine ends spine joints and corners. The cloth ties are generally clean and solid though the tie to the rear foredge has broken close to the boards. There are 24 of the 27 plates present - all in very clean bright condition. Also included are five pages of a "Perspective Syllabus" for the course with the owner's initials inked at the bottom edge of the first page. Plates #11-14 are lacking. The author William Robert Ware is credited with designing the High Street Church in Brookline MA along with Harvard's Memorial and Weld Halls and several other local landmarks. In 1865 he became the first Professor of Architecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1881 he moved to New York where he founded the School of Architecture at Columbia University. "William Robert Ware's lifelong work as an architectural educator had an unparalleled influence on the development of the profession in America. The models he established first at MIT and later at Columbia University provided the foundation for numerous architectural programs throughout the country.
