This book is from the library of and bears the ink signature of Dr. Arthur Frank Payne 1876-1939 of Newton New Jersey. Dr. Payne earned the degree of Bachelor of Philosophy at the University of Chicago and that of Master of Arts at Columbia University. In 1917 he served as executive secretary of the Military Training Commission in New York. In 1918 he was director of the United States War Department surveys. He pursued advanced studies at Harvard where he was made a Doctor of Education. He went on to teach at Columbia the College of the City of New York the University of Minnesota the University of California and Harvard. Dr. Payne edited several educational and psychological texts for McGraw-Hill and was associate editor of VOCATIONAL EDUCATION MAGAZINE. A gifted lecturer Dr. Payne spoke regularly on psychology at Carnegie Hall in New York. For many years Dr. Payne was actively involved with the National Education Association serving as its treasurer and as president of its department of vocational guidance. According to his biography in THE STORY OF NEW JERSEY by William S. 1854220832Kyushu Japan. Kaei 7 1854. Manuscript architectural plan 69.8 x 87cms in black ink red dots indicating pillar removal in very good condition. An original architectural plan for a substantial Japanese house which has undergone renovation. The building probably belongs to a person with official samurai status. The plan is dated Kaei 7 1854 and shows the layout of the main rooms entrance and gateway as well as interior features such as a water source drainage points and irori sunken hearths for charcoal fires. Red dots on the plan show the places where pillars have been replaced and the document bears the names both of the carpenter and of an official of the Kokubu District in southern Kyushu. . unknown

Wikipedia.<br><br>CONDITION: Copy is VG with moderate external wear particularly around the seams and edges. It appears that there may have been red leather corners on the front and back boards but these are no longer present. Inner hinges have cracked yet boards are still strongly affixed and the binding is sound. Leaves have lightly toned predominantly along the edges. Engravings are highly detailed and are magnificent. Completely unmarked. Very little foxing or discoloration. Pagination is complete and plates are all present.
