Dampstain from top & bottom edges near spine head affecting text pages particularly prelims and rear endpapers diminishing as one works into the center of the book. Song notes and ownership name of "Thomas M. Elliott Grass Valley Nevada County California" in pencil front endpaper; rough sketch of a map in pencil back pastedown showing east coast states near and including New York; leading bottom corner tip of text block a bit chewed. Overall binding is solid and the bulk of the text relatively clean. Appears to be rare in the original. Without music: tunes for part of the songs indicated by title. . First edition. 7 1/2" x 5 1/4" in over-sized color pictorial wrappers featuring a pantheon of women above the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid in Egypt and with original glassine dust jacket. 16 pp. Color illustrations throughout. Sewn at spine with red silk ribbon. A very scarce and beautifully printed Victorian catalog for women's shoes. The company specifically designed shoes for young women that were graceful shapely and easy to the foot to make it a pleasure for walking in the fall and winter. These styles include the Rambler the Cresto the Waverly the Ardsley the Carmen the Hy-Tide and the Dixie. This catalog features the latest company styles shown against the backdrop of color cover art of shoes worn by the Queen of Sheba Helen of Troy Cleopatra Pocahontas Betsy Ross and others. Founded originally in 1893 by Julian future Treasury Secretary under Roosevelt and Truman and Kokenge a Kentucky shoe manufacturer the company transferred operations to Columbus Ohio in 1932 and operated until 1975. Light soiling light bumping to corners and with light wear to the extremities. Glassine dust jacket with 1/2" x 1/2" chip to bottom edge of front and rear cover along with minor chipping and wear to edges. Very good. The H.W. Weisbrodt Co., n.d. [ca 1900]. unknown

Brown cloth boards are heavily rubbed and soiled however what looks like a portion of the original cover has been tipped in to the front with the Title of the book the number of engravings and the price which indicates that this is the Fifteen Shilling Large Paper Edition. Spine has been somewhat crudley reinforced with leather and now look to be good for another several hundred years front and rear pastedowns are somewhat soiled and untidy rear has had a architectural drawing of the West Elevation of the Abbey sellotaped to it this is now loosely inserted in rear with sellotape marks to edges. There is an errata slip inside the rear end paper. Text is in surprisingly good order all plates are present. Hinges are tight previous owners name to top of free front end paper no other inscriptions found overall still a decent copy of a scarce work. Happy to supply photos on request. Heavy book will reqire additional postage outside the UK. hardcover
