Sammy Kaye 1910 - 1987 was an American bandleader and songwriter whose tag line "Swing and sway with Sammy Kaye" became one of the most famous of the Big Band Era. His signature tune was "Harbor Lights". A leader of one of the so-called "Sweet" bands of the Big Band Era he made a large number of records for the top labels including RCA Victor and Columbia. He was also huge on radio and on the concert touring circuit. Handsome set of this popular anthology compiled by the popular Big Band leader . Custom slipcase approx.6x9 inches and cloth covered with the original front label retained. Dust jackets have negligible chipping at the edges elsethe volumes are clean square sharp and tight. Program for the memorial for the stand-up comic and rock singer/songwriter who co-wrote "Don't Touch Me There" for The Tubes and performed with them. She died in October 1986 in a helicopter crash while working as a traffic reporter for WNBC in New York. Attendees ranged from Tom Ammiano to Jerry Garcia Robin Williams and Todd Rundgren. The fanzine which eventually evolved into a professional format magazine was a very amatuerish effort at the start. The first two issues anyway were 11 x 14" x 8 1/2" page items printed on both sides included some hand typing many B&W photos some work that was actually written by hand and held together by a staple at the top. I am sure that a common copy machine was also used in the publishing process. Issue #1 April-May 1977 Issue #2 June -July1977. These copies initially sent to a fan in Baldwin NY Richard Hoffman. Not perfect examples but have aged well. Paperback

Briggs and Richard Hough Briggs's editor at Hamish Hamilton conceived the idea of "Briggs' Books" six non-fiction titles for children about great figures of the 20th century. The UK edition was published earlier the same year. Showell Styles was a mountaineer and novelist who led several expeditions in the Himalayas and the Arctic. He wrote over 160 books for both children and adults with this book focusing on Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay's expedition to become the first people to climb Everest. Briggs 1934-2022 was an illustrator graphic novelist cartoonist and author. The winner of numerous awards including the Kate Greenaway Medal twice the Hans Christian Andersen Award the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and the Kurt Maschler Award Briggs noted that "the whole point of illustration is that it is literary. If it is not it remains a drawing only. Something must be 'going on' in the illustration" Horne p. 124.
