1911AQ34791Glasgow: Dalross Limited 1911. A presentation copy bound in one volume. 12 viii 4-10 6 11-1155pp. With an initial catalogue of advertisements and one in-text engraved map. Original publisher's gilt-decorated blue cloth lettered in gilt to spine and upper board. Lightly rubbed and marked with slight wear to extremities. Spotting and browning to endpapers otherwise internally clean and crisp. A fine 'presentation copy' of the detailed catalogue produced for the 1911 Scottish Exhibition of natural history art and industry held in Glasgow. The first trade edition was issued in two volumes shortly afterwards. The third of four international exhibitions held in Glasgow during the late Victorian period the fair which attracted over 9.3 million visitors featured numerous cultural and industrial artefacts but drew criticism for its inclusion of human exhibits including a 'village' of Highlanders and displays of people from Lapland and West Africa including several children. The fair's profits allowed for the creation of a Chair of Scottish History and Literature at the University of Glasgow first offered to Scottish historian Sir Robert Sangster Rait 1874-1936. . 1990159588San Francisco: Art Lick Gallery 1990. Vintage flyer advertising San Francisco-based Art Lick Gallery circa 1990.

The Art Lick Gallery was opened by artists David Seibold and Luiz da Rosa in 1989 and was at that time the only art gallery located in the Castro District. Founded just as the catastrophic impact of the AIDS crisis was beginning to be fully appreciated in the national media and during an unprecedented attempt at censoring art particularly queer art the gallery served as a safe haven for the LGBTQ art community as well as a bulwark against attacks to the community. In Seibold's own words the gallery was "an alternative to 'downtown' gallery spaces places that sometimes present art work as being so precious and intimidating that it's really unapproachable."

Notable among the exhibitions held at Art Lick were Christopher Enzi's "Inferno & Other Scenes" Jerome Caja's "Compact" and the group exhibition "Eros." The shows held at the gallery which included both group and one- and two-person shows proved essential not only to the Castro community but also to the queer community at large during a period often described by many without hyperbole as a time at war. The gallery closed after Seibold's death in 1992.

8.5 x 11 inches. Near Fine with some light edgewear. Art Lick Gallery unknown
