There are a total of 66 pages filled out. The diary was kept by a U.S. sailor who made entries from his departure date in San Fransisco on July 1 1907 to Nov. 10 1907 when he arrived in Hong Kong. The first page reads "DIARY OF MY TOUR AROUND THE WORLD". The sailor first writes "JULY 1 1907 - SIGNED ON U.S. ARMY TRANSPORT SHERMAN AS AN OILER". The following pages are headed "AT SEA - HONOLULU - MIDWAY ISLAND - GUAM - MANILA - CAVITTE - HONG KONG". His voyage continues ending in Hong Kong. His descriptions of the voyage other sailors experiences native people sights points of interest etc. are very interersting and quite descriptive. Much of the diary is concerned with his time in Manila. Once there he takes a job as a stock clerk with Castle Bros. He then goes to work for the government and describes bossing approx. 200 men. After working in Manila for a month or two he then sails to Hong Kong. 1944000044Atlantic Ocean. Good with no dust jacket. 1944. Softcover. On offer is a handwritten manuscript diary written aboard the USS Monticello AP-61. Very legible in pencil text block has fallen away from the rubber glue top. All 73 sheets are still inside. This comprehensive 5" x 8" Royalmont notebook journal has been well taken care of as none of the 73 pages exhibit tears creases fragility or foxing. All are completely full of first-hand historical and insider information. The journal is very factual with only a few entries not pertaining to the ship. The nameless young man from Ohio does talk very fondly about his wife and baby and about the ship's food. It measures 5" x 8". It begins on July 1 1944 and ends on November 14 of the same year. Every page is easy to read. The first day of this trip for The USS Monticello she had a convoy of 30 ships and blimp dirigible escorts. A quote from the first week:"We are going to England. I have heard that the Monticello is the fifth fastest ship and that this is only the second time that she has been convoyed. It is reported that we have 7M troops aboard". A later entry reads "We are to come across the Northern tip of Ireland through the Firth of Clyde. This morning we passed quite close to the Isle of Man". In the bay at Liverpool he states "Our Propaganda Machine is second to none. I would like to tell people how we are all being fooled". The sailor then boarded the former luxury liner the USS West Point "A beautiful American built just prior to the war-not all of the former splendid is gone but is now a troop ship". ; Manuscript; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall; KEYWORDS: HISTORY OF HANDWRITTEN MANUSCRIPT DOCUMENT LETTER AUTOGRAPH DIARY JOURNAL LOG KEEPSAKE WRITER HAND WRITTEN DOCUMENTS SIGNED LETTERS MANUSCRIPTS HISTORICAL HOLOGRAPH WRITERS DIARIES JOURNALS LOGS AUTOGRAPHS PERSONAL MEMOIR MEMORIAL PERSONAL HISTORY AMERICANA WORLD WAR II WWII NAVAL NAVY . paperback

First edition of this exceedingly scarce catalogue describing and illustrating the Agena stage rockets and the Agena Target Vehicle also known as the Gemini-Agena Target Vehicle GATV which was an uncrewed spacecraft used by NASA during the Gemini program to develop and practice orbital space rendezvous and docking procedures in preparation for the Apollo program. The ATV consisting of an upper rocket stage from Lockheed was launched from Thor and Atlas booster rocket platforms but suffered from continued docking adapter failures after being developed by McDonnell Aircraft Co. The Gemini program capsules were built by McDonnell Aircraft and were the first astronaut-manned spacecraft to include an onboard computer for mission maneuvers very similar to the later Saturn Launch Vehicle digital computer and actually had a fair amount of control largely due to the prodding of Astronaut Gus Grissom. The original NASA photos here depict the Gemini Agena on pad 14 at Cape Canaveral Astronaut White taking his spacewalk during Gemini IV and other GATV assembly procedures. Of particular interest is a test fitting of the Gemini VI capsule with the GATV at the assembly site before they were each mounted on their respective launch vehicles. Printed photos and mimeographed biographies for Astronauts Grissom Walter Schirra Jr. John Young and Thomas Stafford are included. 195075251Marin County: N.p. ca.1950-1975. Archive relating what was once considered one of the finest houses in Marin County built for celebrity lawyer Jake W. Ehrlich in 1951 to the design by Ehrlich's wife Marjorie Mercer. The hilltop home overlooking much of Marin County and the whole of the Bay Area was acquired by the legendary Rock & Roll promoter Bill Graham in 1976. He famously named it "Masada" after the citadel in Palestine where the Zealots held out against the Romans. The material is focused on the years of ownership by Ehrlich and the Ehrlich family.Among the Items: Large 35 x 45" folded with seam splits topographical map of the Erhlch Property1949; Smaller 9x11" survey map 1949; Survey map 18x30" 1953; Surveyor text report and map. No date but last date recorded is 1914; Folder with 1952 contractor letters Thirteen 8x10" professional photos of the house some duplicates; Album pages with 39 snapshots of the Ehrlich family on the property; 1991 local Marin newspaper article about the property shortly after Bill Graham's death; Miscellaneous photographs of Jake Ehrlich in San Francisco with associates. Manila envelope with numerous maps of the property.Known as "the Master" Ehrlich had a 50-year career as a defense and divorce attorney in San Francisco. He was an early example of a "celebrity lawyer" with a talent for publicity as well as legal expertise. He wrote a dozen books on such subjects as the law the Bible and his own life story. He was the model for television lawyer Sam Benedict portrayed by Edmond O'Brien in the early 1960s and Ehrlich was the series' technical adviser. In the 1950s Ehrlich had coached actor Raymond Burr when Burr was preparing to play trial attorney and sleuth Perry Mason on television. His celebrity clients include actors writers night club entertainers directors musicians sports figures industrialists madames murderers bigamists and petty crooks. Included in his client list were; Alexander Pantages for statutory rape Gene Krupa for cannabis Billie Holiday for heroin Errol Flynn and James Mason for divorce Howard Hughes for the movie The Outlaw and Gertrude Morris for murdering her husband in 1952. He also defended rapist Caryl Chessman and stripper Sally Rand. In 1957 he was lead attorney for Lawrence Ferlinghetti proprietor of City Lights Books along with L. Speiser and Al Bendich defending the sale of Allen Ginsberg's book Howl and Other Poems in the obscenity trial. he residence Ehrlich designed with a sliding glass roof at the top of Camino Alto Road in Marin County in Northern California was later owned by rock promoter Bill Graham.Bill Graham was a German-American impresario and rock concert promoter from the 1960s until his death in 1991 in a helicopter crash. He is beloved for the new age of music bought about by the concerts he billed at his Fillmore Auditorium. I am willing to go on record that when the house was purchased by the doyen of rock concerts Billy Graham that the decor changed dramatically.abaa-ny-2022 N.p. unknown
