Modernismos Sindéticos nº 3 142 pages color plates bibliographical references pages 137-141 color pict. wrps In this edition of Síndesis III Professor Eduardo Aquino has been linked to the project with a chapter in which he develops an original proposal about an environmental condition not necessarily related to the beach as such in a literal geographic sense but conceived as a qualitative public space and a place for creative leisure so necessary for a contemporary society. Ricardo L. Castro returns to this series with an essay in which during an annual personal pilgrimage he launches a syndicated look from Delphi. There he finds countless relationships with his experiences of the Chapel of Brother Klaus designed by Peter Zumthor in southern Cologne Germany. 200726252Hong Kong/Köln/London/Los Angeles/Madrid/Paris/Tokyo: Barnes & Noble / Taschen. Fine in Fine dj. 2008 c.2007. Reprint. Hardcover. nice clean copy with no discernible wear to either book or jacket. Movie Icons Series B&W and color photographs There are certainly better and definitely bigger books about Steve McQueen than this small-format tome 6"x8" but if you're in search of a kind of "essence of McQueen" you couldn't do much better. There's an intelligent introductory essay "Steve McQueen: King of Cool" by Alain Silver followed by a "Visual Filmography" which takes up the heart of the book and presents stills from all his films all credited to The Kobal Collection and beautifully reproduced in the best Taschen manner. The Chronology Filmography alas with just the director's credit plus McQueen's role and Bibliography are all quite brief but that doesn't take away from its pleasure as a pictorial survey of his career. All text and captions are in English German and French. The original 2007 Taschen edition seems to have been issued as a paperback only; this edition hardcover with dust jacket appears to have been produced basically for the American remainder market yet seems to be less common than the paperback. Go figure. . Barnes & Noble / Taschen hardcover books

Bird & Bull Press. 8vo. quarter leather over cloth covered boards leather label on spine. 131 pages. First edition. Limited to 140 numbered copies. There was a time when book collecting was big news. In the first half of the twentieth century some of America's leading financiers executives and philanthropists played "this book-collecting game" as A. Edward Newton called it and competed with each other for the finest books and manuscripts in the world. Their booksellers were no less newsworthy and one of the most astute knowledgeable and flamboyant of them all was Dr. A.S.W. Rosenbach of Philadelphia. Dr. R. as the press liked to call him helped to build some of America's greatest collections and his own library assembled from the treasures that he took home for himself rather than put into his stock still draws visitors and researchers from around the world. Dr. Rosenbach and Mr. Lilly: Book Collecting in a Golden Age is the story of one collector Josiah Kirby Lilly Jr. of Indianapolis and the books and manuscripts that he bought from Dr. Rosenbach. The story is told through the many letters that they exchanged and through the descriptions and illustrations of the books and manuscripts themselves. Though this book is the story of only one collector and bookseller it is also a microcosm of a great age of book collecting in which choices were made by booksellers and collectors alike that shaped the contents of some of the greatest research libraries of our own day.
