He served as a court preacher and professor in Königsberg before returning to his hometown of Bad Hersfeld in Hesse Germany in 1705. In Bad Hersfeld he held positions as a church inspector and later as the rector of the local Gymnasium. Mel was known for his pedagogical views influenced by August Hermann Francke. His works was translated into several into several languages. </em> unknown
