He graduated from Tama Art University in 2009. Imai first started to do oil painting when he was in middle school. He entered the school's art club and began to paint with oil paints more vigorously and decided to further study more about painting in high school. After he learned about the technical aspects of oil painting in high school he started to study and explore how to paint portraits in his own style. Imai works with traditional oil painting techniques and commonly captures the shading of light which gives a provocative and melancholy atmosphere to his art. His female portraits possess a sense of mystery and otherworldliness due to their soft and quiet facial expressions and body language. Imai expertly managed to capture the moment of the subjects in deep thoughts through his paintings. Imai explained 'A photograph is able to capture a moment in the past yet paintings are able to capture anywhere and anything in existence. Paintings neither belong to a particular space of time nor are they about to express universal existence.' Imai focuses a lot on the quality of his works and only produces a few exclusive artworks each year. He has participated in international exhibitions such as the Young Art Taipei 2011 and Art Beijing 2012. He is currently an associate member of Hakujitsukai an exclusive group of artists focused on Western art.

Gei-Shin Co. paperback

Fine/Fine. 318 pages : illustrations some color maps ; 25 cm ; ISBN 9781840675221 1840675225 ; OCLC 52286362 ; Originally published: London: Chatham 1998 ; color pictorial boards in similar dustjacket ; In this book Brian Lavery places the Battle of the Nile in its full strategic context showing the interplay of military and political factors that sent Nelson's squadron into the Mediterranean in pursuit of the powerful French invasion fleet. This was also Nelson's first independent fleet command and the author shows the development of his command style and the forging of the esprit de corps which was later to triumph at Trafalgar. It also provides a fascinating and detailed insight into the nature and conditions of naval war in the Age of Sail from the strain felt by fleet commanders isolated from higher authority and starved of information of the enemy to the daily lives of the sailors and the tactics used in battle. --Source: Publisher ; Brian Lavery is a British naval historian author and Curator Emeritus at the National Maritime Museum Greenwich London England. ; FINE/FINE

Caxton Editions hardcover

Soft cover 28x24 cm 208 pp. rich ill. ISBN: 978-960-250-667-7.

During the Interware period the question of renewal of the Byzantine painting was answered by the great Kontoglous who was faithful to the tradition and by Papaloukas who was the new blood. The Church of Greece took the part of Kontoglous and Papaloukas' work was not recognized in his days. But Papalouka's oeuvre places him among the leading artists of the past century; his work stands out for the perfection of composition and chromatic harmony.

This book presents the iconographic work designed and performed by Spyros Papaloukas 1892-1957 at the Metropolitan Church of the Annunciation at Amphissa Phocis. In 1927 Papaloukas won the Competition for the hagiography of the temple and for the next six years he worked in Amphissa composing "unique hagiographic work" as N. Fousekis writes in the introductory text. Papaloukas moved away "from the classical Byzantine forms" but without extremities. With the evolution of his work and the innovations that emerged from the outset not everyone agreed. Although the artist worked until 1931 the project remained incomplete due to the intervention of the local Bishop who considered that "the work had been diverted from the specifications of the Byzantine tradition".

However it is a particularly important example of ecclesiastical art in which the renewal of hagiography was attempted with originality but with respect to the Eastern Orthodox doctrines.

The method of the anthibola used by Papaloukas for the hagiography of the temple dates back to the 15th century and was widespread in Crete.
MIET paperback
