One Is 1 5/16" Thick The Frontispiece Faces The Title Page And The Paper Is Heavier. The Other Is Slightly Less Than 1 3/16" Thick The Frontispiece Faces Forward Recto The Paper Is Clearly Lighter And There Is A Touch Of Smudging To The Page Number "Ii". Given The Prominence Given To The Statement On The Copyright Page Showing Compliance With Wartime Printing Requirements Which The First Issue Clearly Does Not Meet I Would Assume The Thicker Book Was Printed First And The Thinner Soon After. Both Are Very Nice Completely Clean And Evenly-Colored Examples Each With Neat And Small Owners' Names. However The Thicker Volume Has The Bottom Corner Of P 411/412 Torn Away Without Any Wrinkling Or Other Damage But Much Loss Of Text Which May Be A Printing Error But May Just Have Been Torn Away Inexplicably As The Pages Appear Crisp And Unread. <br/> <br/> The Dial Press hardcover

Illustrated with Color / Black and White Plates. Bound in decorated cloth boards. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks binding tight and solid boards lightly rubbed and worn. Cowles founded Flair magazine in 1950 and it folded a year later. The magazine which Time described at its launch as "a fancy bouillabaisse of Vogue Town & Country Holiday etc. " was celebrated not only because of its design and editorial production by European art director Federico Pallavicini né Federico von Berzeviczy-Pallavicini but also because of its lavish production. It was the resulting cost of production that killed the magazine since the expensive special costs for cover cut-outs for some issues for example could not be supported in the long run. This magazine is now sought after by collectors and sells for significant amounts on . Contributors included Saul Steinberg Salvador Dalí The Gypsy Angels Of Spain and many writers and artists who subsequently became well known. The book is housed in its original white slipcase with a full-page illustration mounted on the case's front cover. The slipcase is rubbed and soiled with short tears to the edges. 74 & 1 pages illustrated with a tipped-in portrait frontispiece by Halsman and 27 tipped-in color plates of Dali's jewelry with descriptive text on the facing page. The plate opposite page 52 is torn and creased along its right edge. Good. <p>Inscribed and signed on the front endpaper by Owen Cheatham the owner of the collection.<p>Laid in with the book is the 12-page exhibition catalog with a descriptive index of the jewels.
