188634670Tarrytown NY: November 1886. 1886. Good. - A piece of card 2 inches high by 4-1/2 inches wide is signed in blue ink "Rafael Jossefy / Tarrytown N.Y. Nov. 86". The left side of the card is darkened & there is a very narrow line of darkening across the top edge. Good. <p>Rafael Joseffy 1852-1915 was a Hungarian pianist composer and teacher. He made his debut in Berlin in 1872 and was immediately acclaimed as a brilliant pianist. In 1879 he moved to the United States. After making his New York debut that year under Leopold Damrosch he played with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and subsequently made many appearances in New York and other American cities. He was soloist for the inaugural concerts of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1891. He wrote numerous popular compositions for piano and edited works by Chopin and other composers for G. Surpisingly given the age the binding is in nice tight condition. Raphael Kühner was one of the great classicists of his time. Se inició en el periodismo en <em>El Contemporáneo</em> y en <em>La Discusión</em>. En la <em>Revista Hispanoamericana</em> 1864-1867 pronto propuso la autonomía de Cuba. Fue gran activista de la <em>Sociedad Abolicionista Española</em> fundada en 1865 siendo presidente del Comité ejecutivo desde 1868 a 1876 en que ocupó la Presidencia de la Sociedadque se disolvió en 1888 una vez erradicada la esclavitud de las naciones hispánicas. Su antiesclavismo le granjeó grandes enemistades en Cuba asegurando Miguel Moya Oradores políticos que un periódico integrista cubano abrió suscripción para premiar a quien lograse aniquilarle: "Por sacarle los ojos 100. Por partirle el corazón de una puñalada 500. Por arrastrarle 1.000 pesos.".En 1871 fue elegido diputado en Cortes por Infiesto Asturias sin pertenecer a ningún partido político.
