Ellis at The Georgian Press Westport CT. Christmas : Anno Mcmxxi." Quoted from the colophon.
The book designer and printer Richard Williamson Ellis 1895-1982 was inspired by Bruce Rogers to launch his own press in 1924. Initially located in New York Ellis moved The Georgian Press to a renovated barn in Westport Connecticut. During the period from 1924 through 1933 Ellis frequently collaborated with his friends especially the famous typographer Frederic Goudy. Faced with financial difficulties Ellis sold the press to George Macy of the Limited Editions Club and moved to Camden New Jersey with his wife in 1935. He took a position with Haddon Craftsmen and then Kingsport Press in Tennessee. He returned to New York to work as a consulting book printer. He worked for the Curtis Publishing Company in Philadelphia and again subsequently struck out on his own. A master of fine printing he was commissioned by the Free Library of Pennsylvania to produce and print their "Pennsylvania German Fraktur of the Free Library of Philadelphia" shortly before his death.
RARE.
