The boards are a touch rubbed but remain otherwise strong and sturdy. Internally there is some light foxing to the end papers but there are no other markings or inscriptions and the pages within are neat and complete. The binding is secure. JK. The work provides a series of observations of communists in Paris with descriptions. While the work was not primarily political with Bertall claiming he had no political bias the illustrations are considered to be propagandistic depicting communists in a negative light.
