18280JT157USA 1828. This is a small archive of original handwritten fragments from the pen of Levi Bartlett. Late 1700 early 1800 - 7 pieces of paper in Levi Bartlett 1763-1828 handwriting. Levi was the son of Josiah Bartlett best known as a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Not easy to read but still legible here are some excerpts: "Ord. 3. Performance of Your Duties.our duties arise from our relations 1. to the Diety 2. Ourselves." "Vertigo by too much nerves Dimness of Sight want of nerve Double Vision too much nerve ." "a. Our duties are 1. to assist the purposes of the Diety in evolving our and others mental powers." Very interesting and certainly worthy of further research. Includes an historical narrative and short biography of Levi Bartlett as well as photocopies of various letters or decrees in Levis hand. Though unsigned it is evident from the addtional photocopied material this is indeed from Levi. Fragile but still very presentable. Very rare. . Autograph. Manuscript. Fair. 64mo - up to 3" tall. "5/4 cts Postage" in ink on final blank.<br /> <br /> After the Massachusetts Medical Society had expelled him Bartlett sought to revoke the Society's Charter. The case illustrates the early efforts of medical societies to control physicians' treatment of their patients. The Society had tossed Bartlett for praising a physician who the Society contended was a quack. Bartlett said the Society itself "tended to promote quackery." Moreover it sought exclusive privileges for its members and prohibited "consultation with any who do not become members of that body." Witnesses are sworn and testimony presented. She served as Dean of Women at University of California Berkeley from 1912 to 1942. Berkeley Student Cooperative's Stebbins Hall is named for her. Little Brown & Co unknown
1860JOY200<p>Published as campaign material during Lincoln's campaign for his first term in 1860. Cover of stamped dark brown fabric with gilt on the spine. Spine states "Honest Old Abe" followed by <em>The Life of Abraham Lincoln </em>and the authors name. A gilt axe and portrait of Lincoln precedes the publisher's name at the base of the spine. The free portions of the spine are missing top and bottom as is most of the fabric on the edges see photos #6 shows the top edge and #7 the lower edge. There is a split along the lower rear edge of the spine of about 5 cm see photo #5. The binding is solid and the pages are tight with some foxing and tanning as would be expected although I've seen far younger books with much more of both. A gift inscription in faded pencil on the front free endpaper indicates that S. Randall received this book April 10 of 1860 from Uncle Chauncy. The bulk of this book is all about Lincoln but at the end is a short biography of his running mate Hannibal Hamlin. This is a very rare book with only a few on the market.</p> Derby & Jackson, Publishers hardcover

Featuring a monochrome frontispiece an illustrated half title twenty-five further monochrome plates and a monochrome folding map in addition to monochrome vignette illustrations throughout. Collated complete. Penned and illustrated by British artist William Henry Bartlett who travelled extensively and created sepia wash drawings as he did so to be engraved Only 3 records on jisc.
