Moderate wear and heavy dirt stains to covers. Ribbon is worn but will tie. Plates have light dings to corners and some light brown and grey dirt stains. A few have small closed tears to edges. 1938125845<p>The First UK printing published by Nicholson & Watson London in 1938. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Some light pushing and fading at the spine ends and corners. Some offsetting to the blank end-papers and some mild toning to the text-block. Penned name of 'P.D. Wheeler' to the half title related to the restaurant 'Wheelers of St. James'. Sponsorship notice from the Lady Melchett and Hon. Mrs. Malcom Bowes Lyon laid-down inside the front cover as issued. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition. Some mild toning to the spine and edges a light horizontal crease to the rear panel and some light markings to the spine. The wrapper looks striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Edited by Ambrose Heath there are 290 pages of famous recipes and wonderful full page B/W illustrations by Mathurin Meheut. The 'Prunier Restaurant' restaurant ran in London from 1934 until 1976. In 1954 Madame Prunier was made Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur France's highest honour. A very sharp copy of a handsome production. More images available on request. In fair condition suitable as a study copy. 26 mounted plates out of a possible 100. Each measuring approx 35 x 44cm. Plates have been numbered in pen. Appears to be a collection of ornithology drawings numbered from C1 to C25. However C3 and C6 of the collection appear to be missing. Additional plate numbered A13 included which depicts panthers likely a from different division in the series. Each plate has printed text in right hand corner with the title of the series and artist. Plates have some grubbiness mostly confined to margins and the margin has been stamped by library. Presented in a contemporary folio of green cloth with black leather half binding and black ribbon ties.
