Jean-Gabriel Daragnès 1886-1950 était un peintre un éditeur et un illustrateur de livres et notamment d'ouvrages que l'on désigne désormais communément sous le vocable d'illustrés modernes. Au premier chef de ses réalisations figurent entre autres une édition remarquée de Suzanne et le Pacifique de Jean Giraudoux ou encore Les Ballades de la Geôle de Reading d'Oscar Wilde gravures "à la manière noire" 1917. Bien d'autres ouvrages illustrent sa carrière. Il a collaboré en tant que directeur artistique à la maison d'édition Emile-Paul Frères qui lui doit nombre de ses plus belles réussites. Il a été peintre de la Marine de 1933 jusqu'en 1942. A rare find with 3 original Daragnès works each an apparent preliminary drawing used in Nos Loisirs. The comparisons are interesting as they reflect on the artist's working methodology; the final illustration slightly revised for publication. Nos Loisir in fine condition in the original glassine. Spine of slipcase slightly faded. This copy is exceptionally enriched with the following items: - an original pastel signed by Anna de Noailles used as tailpiece p. 64 - an autograph letter signed by Anna de Noailles to La Gandara concerning Le Cur innombrable 1 p. - 4 autograph poems by Anna de Noailles with additions and corrections: ""Chansons pour des jours d'été"" published here under the title ""Le Baiser"" ""La nuit"" published under the title ""A la nuit"" an untitled poem published under the title ""L'ardeur"" and ""La nature et l'Homme"" under the title ""Fraternité"" 6 pp. Ex-libris of Edouard de La Gandara mounted on one of the endpapers. A stage actor under the pseudonym Jean Dara La Gandara notably collaborated with Sarah Bernhardt and received numerous books with inscriptions from Colette Maurice Donnay the Comtesse de Noailles and Anatole France.
