He Was The Younger Brother Of The Classical Scholar John Wordsworth And Charles Wordsworth Bishop Of Saint Andrews Dunkeld And Dunblane. He Was Educated At Winchester And Trinity Cambridge. Like His Brother Charles He Was Distinguished As An Athlete As Well As For Scholarship. He Won The Chancellor's Gold Medal For Poetry In 1827 And 1828. He Became Senior Classic And Was Elected A Fellow And Tutor Of Trinity In 1830; Shortly Afterwards He Took Holy Orders. He Went For A Tour In Greece In 1832-1833 And Published Various Works On Its Topography And Archaeology The Most Famous Of Which Is "Wordsworth's" Greece 1839. In 1836 He Became Public Orator At Cambridge And In The Same Year Was Appointed Headmaster Of Harrow A Post He Resigned In 1844. In 1844 Sir Robert Peel Appointed Him As A Canon Of Westminster 1844-1869. He Was Vicar Of Stanford In The Vale Berkshire 1850-1869 And Archdeacon Of Westminster 1864-1869. The first is a layout of the first tee and closing hole at St. Andrews Old Course. The second is of a golfer finishing his swing with. golfers in the background. The third is a golfer loonig at a difficult shoe if not impossible. These are very old and quite rare. They have been in my possession for 40 years and are new to the market. At one time I had the name of the artist but have misplaced my fact sheet. See pics. unknown unknown

Civil War era ornate family record with elaborate Spencerian style calligraphy and flourishingincluding imagery of angels cherubs birds and flowers"designed and wholly executed with a pen by R.H. Trumbull." Single sheet 24 x 20 inches. In Good condition with shallow dampstaining along the bottom edge small chip at the top edge and puncture in the lower right. The areas for recording births marriages and deaths have been filled with information about the Sweet family beginning with William Sweet b. 1829 and his wife Anna b. 1839. It descends to six children born throughout the 1860s their marriages in the 1880s and the death of William and Anna Sweet in 1895. Some of the writing is quite faded but helps illustrate how the record was kept in use through several generations.
