1974152627Beijing: Wenwu chubanshe 1974. First edition of this beautiful archaeological portfolio far grander than most other books published in Mao's China. The murals were discovered in the tombs of Li Xian and Li Chongrun two Tang dynasty princes interred at the Qianling mausoleum complex near Xi'an Shaanxi Province. Designed to project imperial grandeur the tombs were excavated in 1971-2 archaeologists finding over 800 square metres of spectacularly preserved murals and cultural relics. The 90 colour plates show detailed portions while the large plans display the overall structure of the tombs. Folio. With 90 colour plates 2 cross-sectional double-page plans of tomb sites. Text in Chinese. With original plastic protective jacket and accompanying 32-page abstract in English and French.
