Calves pates the skin of the forehead was used for sizing paper. The original newspaper disbound from a folio. 4 pp. on laid paper vg; some scattered foxing and a sm. waterstain at the bottom edge. A fascinating paper with news of Napoleon's maneuverings against the British; reports of Napoleon's "Non-Intercourse Law" which blockaded most of the ports of Europe for years and started many small wars including our 'War of 1812'; and an editorial critical of Madison's invasion of Spanish Florida left more or less unattended while Napoleon pestered the Spanish government. <br/> <br/> Hudson & Goodwin unknown

Edges are darkened but very little worn; no foxing. Has a to me incomprehensible editorial about Jacobins and Jefferson rumors of Napoleon's invasion of Holland a report of 2 ships captured by pirates at Guadaloupe and an interesting bit from New orleans a 'remonstrance': ".that the act passed by last Congress for the government of Louisiana be annulled and particularly that part respecting the slave trade:- that the French language be preserved in all our judiciary and civil proceedings; that we be immediately acknowledged as a State and enjoy as such the privilege of appointing our own Executive Council. <br/> <br/> John Park unknown

18618855NY: NY World 1861. Periodical. Good. The original newspaper letterpress printed on plain white paper 8 pp. unopened still folded at top so that pp. 2-3 and 6-7 are at first hidden. Much news from the beginning of the Civil War including Gen'l Irwin McDowell's report of the Battle of Bull Run now called the First Battle of Bull Run. McDowell was soon replaced by Lincoln after botching this battle. Condition is good only; There is a printer's flaw at the bottom of p.1 with the loss of maybe 20 words; there is a great deal of edgewear and brown splotches staining the paper in many places. 18429141Boston: Francis Blair & John C. Rives 1842. Periodical. Good. The original newspaper 4 pp. good only. Several words are lost to a sm. hole in p. 3-4; scattered foxing and light stains stamp of Tennessee Historical Society at masthead. Speech of Mr. Buchanan in the Senate Whig election frauds etc.; and a short notice reprinted from the New Orleans Bee about the Santa Fe Expedition; the editor says "We place the more reliance on it as the treachery practiced is characteristic of the false and cowardly Mexican." The incident was interesting and probably one cause of the Mexican War; a group of Texans with an armed escort headed for Santa Fe to take possession of it apparently. When outnumbered and captured far short of Santa Fe they disclaimed their military objective but nevertheless were escorted in irons to Mexico City under harsh conditions. One of these Texans George Kendall wrote an excellent account of it. <br/> <br/> Francis Blair & John C. Rives unknown

The Little Corporal was a monthly children's magazine published in Chicago Illinois from 1865 to 1875 and became the first children's periodical in the United States to gain a nation-wide readership. The magazine had a strong emphasis on patriotism and had the motto of "Fighting against Wrong and for the Good and the True and the Beautiful." It published works by popular writers of the day including Harriet Mann Miller writing as Olive Thorne Sarah Chauncey Woolsey writing as Susan Coolidge Josephine Pollard and Harry Castlemon. The periodical merged with St. Nicholas Magazine in 1875. Appletons' Journal was an American magazine of literature science and arts. Published by D. Appleton & Company and debuting on April 3 1869 its first editor was Edward L. Youmans followed by Robert Carter Oliver Bell Bunce and Charles Henry Jones. Devlin. Many Irish and Irish-Americans were on the programme. The evening closed with a singing of the National Anthem - "God Save Ireland" with the words on the facing page. The top and rear pages bear advertisements from local businesses: two clothiers house insurance two bar rooms especially Stanton Brothers next door to the Opera House "Where anything you desire can be got." 1881Biblio 003<p>A collection of cartoons which appeared in Punch magazine detailing the long career of Lord Beaconsfield Benjamin Disraeli. </p><p>There are 112 cartoons - so perhaps one is missing or perhaps they included the front illustration.
