Small piece of paper with the Lord's prayer written in Latin in a miniature script encompassing an area of a circle about 9/16 of an inch 14mm. Titled above in English "Lord's Prayer." A ring of larger text around the prayer states in English "Keepsake - size of a gold dollar - penman AE age73 - Oct. 7 1850 unintelligible word." Under the circle is written "Addenda. Sis memor mei S. Dana Savendo Tutus: a wise man's eyes are in his head. Salve." The paper size is: 1 13/16" width by 2 9/16" height 46mm x 65mm. Later half cloth and marbled papered boards bound without lettering by a capable amateur all edges uncut; leaves heavily cockled and occasionally creased; minor signs of age and use outer pages a little chipped foxed and dusty small dogears to some leaves at the beginning and end of each volume; leading margins of the plates slightly chipped and a little dusty with occasional light spots of foxing and a few small stains almost always outside the platemark; clean tear to one plate neatly sealed; small inkstamp on the title pages and one half-title 'Bibliotheca Bernensis ordinis praemonstratensis Heeswijk'; ownership signatures in ink crossed out and pencil on the half-titles; a decent set worthy of a more sympathetic binding. A translation by J.F. Serrurier of the 'Pomologisches theoretisch-praktisches Handwörterbuch' by Johann Ludwig Christ the title page here incorrectly giving his initials as 'J.C.'; it incorporates additional material from 'A Treatise on the Culture and Management of Fruit-Trees' 1802 by William Forsyth. Folio bifolium 32cm; patent accomplished in manuscript printed within typographically decorative border on second panel with directions on facing panel adorned with large woodcut illustration of a horse's head in the bridle with letters designating the different parts. Old mail folds brief evidence of tape to margins else a Very Good to Near Fine example.<br /> <br /> Evidently unrecorded indenture form providing a deed of rights to this improved safety bridle and line signed by both Henry H. Stehman and his business partner Amos B. Christ together with two local witnesses on the 24th of August 1866. The indenture provides Stehman and Amos production and sale rights for Bucks County for $300. The facing panel provides directions for using the harness accompanied by a handsome woodcut of a steed in the contraption. The bridle required elastic gum which "can be had in any of the stores in our principle sic cities where Goodyear's Gum Goods are sold." <br /> <br /> No copies in the trade or OCLC as of May 2026. Upper board and initial gathering held by single cord only. Presentation copy inked inscription to recto of FFEP: ‘From the Author’. The first edition of a handsomely illustrated anonymous verse account of the life of Christ from the nativity to the ascension composed in simple rhyming couplets for the benefit of a young readership. The only clue as to the identity of the author is provided by the dedication: 'To my little nephew Claude this poem is dedicated by his affectionate aunt G'. The British Critic and Theological Review Vol. XXIV 1843 was effusive in its praise; 'a great experiment and really to the best of our judgement a successful one. The difficulty of the task appears from the attempt not having been made before. The verses are very easy and though rather ballad in style are devoid of any palpable irrelevance. The plates are after the works of masters and in the style both of their drawing and of colouring remind one of the severe and simple effect of old painted windows'. A second edition was published the following year slightly expanded to 68 pages and now with the proceeds "for benefit of a Girls' School at Walla Walla Washington". With recipes in narrative form and only a few attributed. Some light soiling throughout but sound; newspaper clipping pasted down to free front endpaper. Good or better. Ink notes to rear endpaper and pencil annotations to a number of recipes. Early ownership inscription to front paste down "Sargeant Worcester 1875". Contents include a report from Chauncey W. West on the mission he led to India Ceylon and Arabia. His report of their arrival at Galle Sri Lanka notes a local newspaper report had been published declaring "that we were polygamists that they must beware us and not receive us for if they did they would be partakers of our evil deeds." The first edition came out in 1876 and this revised 1880 printing followed after it proved popular locally. Books like this were usually made as church fundraisers pulling together recipes from members of the congregation and the surrounding area. Because of that they give a pretty direct look at how people were actually cooking and living day to day not some polished version of it. This one still has its ads throughout which adds a good layer of local history with period businesses from Warren.<br /> Bound in original black pressed paper covers with a cloth spine.<br /> <br /> It is in Very Good condition with heavy shelf wear to the covers including bumped and worn corners. The endpapers show some foxing and discoloration while the interior pages remain mostly clean with slight rounding to the corners and a few dog-eared pages. Press of the Warren Record unknown
