Written on the eve of the French Revolution the novel is recognized as perhaps Bernardin's finest work. Written by Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre a French writer and botanist best known for this work a very popular eighteenth-century classic of French literature. Elizabeth; or the Exiles of Siberia a popular French historical romance novel. The story centers on Elisabeth a young girl determined to rescue her father from exile in Siberia driven by an unwavering sense of filial duty and deep love for her family. Written by Sophie Cottin a French writer whose novels were popular in the nineteenth century and were translated into several languages. Bound in full straight grained morocco. Externally smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the boards with small cracks to the front joint. Internally firmly bound. Questa edizione riprende la prefazione dell'edizione Masson del 1839 ispirandosi a questa anche per la cornice decorativa del testo e da quella milanese del 1822 la traduzione di Virginio Soncini con dedica ad Andrea Mustoxidi. Le tavole non intercalate al testo come indicato nell'indice delle incisioni ma poste dal legatore tra le pagine III e IV sono impresse dalla Premiata Litografia di Francesco Guarisco da disegni firmati C.
