As a clergyman of the Church of England Spark was admitted to a prebend in the church of Rochester a few years before his untimely death: "He died on 7 Sept. 1692 at Bath whither he had gone to drink the waters" DNB. His contemporaries attributed his death to "his excesses and too much Agitation obtaining Spiritualities" Wood "Ath. Oxon.".<br /> <br /> The present work is a scholarly edition of the works of early Christian theologian Lactantius ca. 240-320 CE. This copy lacks several title pages both of the book as a whole and of individual treatises and also lacks 10 pages of text scattered across three locations. The front board and first page of epistle dedicatory are detached from the rest of the book; this board has a mended corner. The paper is in remarkably good condition throughout apart from a few tears especially considering that the book is over 400 years old - if only some of our modern books were printed on paper as durable as this! Joseph Hall Bishop of Norwich was a Calvinistic Anglican and an English representative at the Synod of Dordt. He held some evangelical and puritan principles but was not part of the Puritan movement. De Blonay was the daughter of a notable Savoyard family--her father Claude de Blonay was the co-Lord of Saint Paul and an associate of Saint Francis de Sales uncle of the author of this biography Charles Auguste. Marie de Blonay's career began inauspiciously--her entry into the Order of the Visitation recently founded by Francis de Sales was delayed by the brutal murder of her brother who was ambushed and stabbed to death by the son of a rival family. The tragedy occurred while his father was abroad and the body was brought instead to his sister Marie. <br /> <br /> Marie did eventually enter the rapidly expanding Order of the Visitation where she first worked as a nurse before being named Superieure of the Monastere de Lyon.<br /> <br /> OCLC locates two copies in North America as of April 2025 at Johns Hopkins and BYU.
