1972201683<p>New York 1972. Like New. Signed. Original typed postcard dated 23 April 1972 signed in blue ink by Isaac Asimov. Also included is a carbon of the response to Asimov. Asimov is addressing the active California fan Rick Sneary who was apparently trying to get Asimov to either attend a Con or donate a manuscript to the benefit auction. Asimov replies "Impossible for me to be there as you've guessed. Also alas impossible for me to contribute anything to the auction. Everything conceivable--down to first draft and scribbled notes--goes to Boston University. In fact your letter will go there and your request will be immortalized and my curator will send me an anxious letter reminding me that nothing must go anywhere else." Sneary's response is good humored and he notes that Asimov's rejection note will be donated to the auction and suggests that his curator should come out and bid for it. Both the original Asimov and the carbon Sneary are in fine condition.</p>

A short one-page letter to Ward Botsford a producer at Caedmon Records transmitting the liner notes for the album "The Mayors from Foundation Read by the Author" Caedmon TC 1527 1977. <br /> <br /> Asimov writes that he is delivering the text not present ahead of schedule and then concludes by reminding Botsford to send his payment "I hope it's suitable for what you want and if it is then you owe me $200. Right" <br /> <br /> Asimov was never shy about asking people to pay what they owed him. This letter was written near the lowest ebb of his science fiction career with this job paying just 25 cents per word. He had just published Bicentennial Man which would win both the Hugo and the Nebula awards in coming months beginning a remarkable second period of success where his Foundation and I Robot sequels regularly landed on the bestseller lists in the 1980s and 1990s thirty years after the original books changed SF forever. <br /> <br /> About 50 words on 5-3/4 by 6-7/8 letterhead. Folded once for mailing; staple holes at the top presumably where the typescript was once attached. Signed "Isaac. unknown

THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE & THE CURSE OF THE FACELESS MAN;asking about the status of a work commissioned by Playboy noting that his was turned down but sold to F & SF then went on to be anthologized three times; wanting to know the same status of his Pohl's contribution and that of Arthur C. Clarke; as to the "antimatter robot" F & SF is doing a "Special Asimov Issue" in about 6 months and he Asimov had to write a novelette a poem and a complete bibliography the latter taking longer to produce than the novelette. A nice opportunity to snare a letter from this HUGO winning and most important member of first fandom to another. Most suitable for framing. N.p. unknown
