1910133<p>ca1910 photograph Hazel Hurst Farm Newburgh NY. Photograph by Ruben Newburgh Jacob Ruben 1882-1974 was born in Russia to Jewish parents who emigrated when he was a child. He operated a stationery and publishing business in Newburgh becoming well known as a commercial photographer. Hazelhurst was a British mill owner in 1845 rebuilding a cotton mill on Moodna creek after a fire to operate as a shoddy mill. He sold it in 1850. The mill site is in Orangeville near Newburgh. The farm advertised registered Holstein and Jersey cattle for sale in the 1890s. On the back of the photo: "The old Chauncey Olcott House just above Union Ave. I think he was a great singer." Olcott born 1858 in Lockport NY was an actor songwriter and singer - famous for Irish melodies "My Wild Irish Rose" - also the name of the biopic after his death in 1932. He owned a summer house in Saratoga NY that he called Inniscara - it is unknown whether he ever owned Hazel Hurst or only stayed there while performing in Newburgh. Mount 10"x8"</p> Ruben
