Rebound in a pleasing modern cloth with spine title label. Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and one plates. Collated complete. This catalogue describes the impressive range of tokens presented to the Corporation Library by Henry Benjamin Hanbury Beaufoy originating from London traders taverns and coffee-houses of the seventeenth century. Beaufoy was a wealthy British industrialist and philanthropist who established one of the largest brewers of vinegar in Britain and Ireland by 1810. Rebound in full cloth with spine title label. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear and marginal yellowing to the spine and parts of boards. Internally firmly bound with neat tape reinforcement to the recto of the first and last page. Pages are bright and generally clean with offsetting to the title page and scattered spotting to the first few pages only. Diversions of The Echo Club is subtitled as a companion to the Autocrat of the Breakfast Table by Oliver Wendell Holmes. It is an imitation and parody of various poets. La Rochefoucauld's Reflections and Moral Maxims are an incredibly famous collection of thoughts and feelings. They were originally published anonymously but soon established his position among men of letters. There are a total of 504 maxims which reflect on various subjects such as the conduct and motives of mankind. The Book of Clerical Anecdotes is subtitled as 'a gathering from many sources of the antiquities humours and eccentricities of 'the cloth.'' The collection of anecdotes are sourced from several places including biographies history works newspapers and periodicals. The final work to this volume The Relations between America and England is subtitled as 'a reply to the late speech of Mr Sumner'. It is written by Goldwin Smith a British historian and journalist of the late nineteenth century. In a half calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally generally smart with slight rubbing to the head and tail of spine joints and extremities. Small patches of rubbing to the rear paper covered board. Internally firmly bound. A very rare copy in very good condition.</p><p>Johann Jacob Grümbke 1771 - 1849 was a German historian and geographer. He extensively researched the history and geography of Rügen and illustrated his own works. A Tour through the Island of Rügen was Grümbke's pointed response to what he considered as inaccurate and sometimes erroneous travelogues by some of his predecessors. He describes his wanderings across the island of Rügen in 12 letters dated from July 26 1803 to October 7 1803.</p> Richard Phillips paperback
18906184821890. Unbound. Very Good. Sepia-toned gelatin silver boudoir photograph. Image approximately 7.5" x 4.5". on a slightly larger card mount. Light fading at the upper extremities very good or better. Contemporary ink caption on verso noting "Headquarters of the Beekmanites 6 miles from Rockford Ill." with a few later and erasable pencil notes. The Beekmanites were and still are to some degree an obscure religious cult. In the 1880s Dorinda Beekman declared herself Jesus and began her own religion on Weldon Farms in Winnebago Illinois outside of Rockford and declared the farm as Heaven. When Beekman suddenly died and didn't return from the dead three days later one of her disciples a red-headed man named George Jacob Schweinfurth declared that her spirit had taken over his body and he continued the religion and where he lived in luxury enjoying the company of the female "Angels" who worshipped him and who soon began to give birth to red-headed children causing the patriarch to be driven from the property and move to Chicago where he took up Christian Science. His story attracted some attention including a visit by and published article in The New York Times. A nice artifact of an obscure byway in American home-cooked religions. unknown

The work offers a glimpse into life during the First Yeshuv and the experiences of the Jewish community in the Galilee region of Ottoman-controlled Palestine of the early-mid 18th century. The book specifically relates to Berab's experiences living in and around Tiberias now Northern Israel and the historical events that occurred there during the period. The work also includes poetry. The original edition of the work was published in Mantua circa 1744 or 1745. Text throughout includes large initials is often printed in Rashi script and is organized in single and multi-column formats. He was liscenced by the Apothecaries Society and subsequently went to love with his mother at Pimlico where he established a private practice. From 1851 to 1868 while Clarke was engaged in general practice and continuing his studies at St. George's Hospital he conducted his now famous research on the central nervous system. "Most of his numerous works were published in in the Philosophical Transactions 1851 53 58 59 60 65 68 in the Proceedings of the Royal Society 1857 61 the Microscopical Journal British and Foreign Medical Review 1864 and others. His earlier works concern the anatomy and the physiology of the medulla oblongata and the spinal marrow as well as the brain. His discovery of the Clark's column also designated nucleus dorsalis was done in this period. His later research is more concerned with pathological studies in his special field. he also published on tetanus diabetes paraplegias of muscular atrophy.<br /> <br /> Clarke was described as a man of the highest character "with s singleness of purpose of noble independence honest and just conscientious and intellectually keen but with a singularly retiring and reserved disposition.
