About 'Chasing Gold": The best athletes on the planet will gather in Tokyo this summer hoping to etch their names in the Olympic record books. For track star Noah Lyles it's a convergence of passions. The 2019 world champion is a favorite for the medals podium having posted the year's fastest 200-meter time as the U.S. Olympic track and field trials. Off the track Lyles is as colorful as he is thoughtful. The 24-year-old Alexandria native is a connoisseur of anime and manga Japan's popular forms of storytelling utilized for fiction and nonfiction alike. For "Chasing Gold Washington Post reporters interviewed Lyles and the people around him. Scenes reflect the subject's memories and other reporting through some dialogue has been edited for length clarity and style. Noah Lyles born July 18 1997 is an American professional track and field sprinter competing in the 100 meters and 200 meters. He is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic 200-meter bronze medalist and a two-time World champion having won the event at the 2019 and 2022 World Athletics Championships. At these Championships Lyles also earned gold and silver medal in the 4 × 100 m relay respectively. He holds personal bests of 9.86 seconds for the 100-meter and 19.31 seconds for the 200-meter the latter being an American record making him the third fastest on the respective world all-time list. Lyles won a gold medal in the 200-meter during the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. He won gold medals for the 100-meter and 4 × 100-meter relay during the 2016 World U20 Championships. He is a five-time Diamond League champion including one 100-meter and four 200-meter titles. On August 4 2021 Lyles won a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 200-meter men's final with a time of 19.74 seconds equaling his season's best from the U.S. Olympic Trials earlier that year. He followed this Olympic performance with a 19.52 1.5 in Eugene Oregon on August 21 which was his second best performance and the ninth fastest 200-meter mark in history. On July 21 2022 during the World Athletics Championships on home soil in Eugene Oregon Lyles claimed his second global title in the 200-meter and surpassed Michael Johnson's long standing record of 19.32 by running 19.31 which moved him to third on the world all-time list. He capped his fine season in the Zürich Diamond League final with victory in 200-meter securing his fourth Diamond Trophy over the distance and fifth overall. Lyles was undefeated in his specialist event that year breaking 20 seconds in all 12 of his races including heats and finals. The Washington Post paperback

202676609Brasilia: Raphus Press 2026. First edition TPBO Trade paperback New. Brasilia: Raphus Press: 2026. First edition TPBO Trade paperback New 300 pp.
This edition limited to 50 copies. This may well be the nicest book that Raphus has produced to date. It may also be the longest - in terms of page count at 300 pages. "In a landscape stitched from the haunted fabric of Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queene a woman made of snow wax and mercury awakens with a borrowed soul and an impossible desire. She wants to become fully autonomously human.
The False Florimell knows only fragments of her origin. An old woman sculpted her in secret. She was shaped in the likeness of another. The soul placed inside her does not sit easily within her gleaming body. Still she is certain of one thing. Only the fabled and dreaded Faerie Queene has the power to grant the transformation she seeks.
Her journey into the dark and tangled Wood brings her into contact with monstrous creatures living remnants of Arthurian legend and landscapes that seem to breathe and watch. Yet her greatest threat is not the forest's horrors but Florimell the True the beautiful and formidable woman whose image she bears. Determined to defend her honor and erase the scandal of her unnatural double Florimell pursues her creation in a relentless game of cat and mouse.
As False Florimell travels with a makeshift fellowship including the steadfast knight Britomart and the handsome morally conflicted Guyon she begins to question what humanity truly is. Along the way they encounter a garden of rotting corpses animated by an intelligent vine and an underground city filled with antediluvian terrors. Reality itself seems unstable as if the world were only a surface stretched over something vast and unknowable.
In this queer and uncanny reimagining of Spenser's epic identity fractures and reforms. Original and imitation blur. Rivalry gives way to uneasy recognition. As the Wood reveals its hidden architecture both Florimells come to understand that survival may require alliance rather than annihilation.
Snow and Wax and Mercury is a gothic fantasia of doubles and metamorphosis a dark meditation on desire authorship and the right to possess a soul." Illustrations. Index. Inscription on title page signed and dated by Pat J. Murphy. Patrick Joseph Murphy born October 19 1973 is a former politician from Pennsylvania who formerly served as the United States Under Secretary of the Army. He was the first veteran of the Iraq War to be elected to the United States House of Representatives representing Pennsylvania's 8th congressional district from 2007-11. Murphy is a former anchor of Taking the Hill on MSNBC and a Philadelphia-based partner at national law firm Fox Rothschild. Murphy was confirmed as Under Secretary of the Army by the U.S. Senate on December 18 2015 after having been nominated for the position by the President on August 5 2015. Murphy was sworn into the post on January 4 2016. The first Iraq War veteran elected to Congress turns out to be an intelligent observer who hated what he saw and decided to do something about it. Murphy pulled himself together after a misspent youth joined the Army ROTC attended Widener University and became the youngest professor at West Point. Teaching law he stressed that no American is too powerful to be above the law-or to decide that someone else doesn't deserve its protection. Murphy was a gung-ho soldier who underwent paratrooper training and joined the 82nd Airborne Division. Transferring to Iraq in 2003 he witnessed the chaos that ensued when the United States destroyed the infrastructure dismissed Saddam Hussein's officials and disbanded his army. He left the service returned home and in 2005 decided to run for Congress as a critic of the war. The book's final third delivers a nuts-and-bolts account of his campaign an uphill struggle in a conservative district against a ruthless well-financed incumbent. Henry Hold and Company hardcover
