Im guessing Kinnell is The town in Scotland and home of the Author. Alexander Berry was a wealthy merchant Member of the Legislative Council and landowner Born in Fife Scotland in 1781 died 1873. Also inscribed at the end of the preface in the same hand " Kinnell = Manse 12 April 1860 George Walker" The preface also contains a few correction made by the author in 1860. A very scarce report carried by the Education Commission of Scotland with a series of statistics collected under instructions from Her Majesty's Commissioners. Bound in full calf with stamped gilt 'For Vice-President's Room' to the front board. The statistics list the natures of the schools' buildings the population of students as well as other general remarks. The need for this information would have derived from the state of education at the time in Scotland which was still facing problems of quality and the general number of children that were receiving insufficient environments of learning. This report alongside the Argyll Commission that was implemented the year after in 1866 ultimately led to support for widespread reform. In full calf binding with 'For Vice-President's Room' stamped in gilt to the front board. Externally sound. With heavy rubbing to the extremities resulting in losses of leather. With amateur tape reinforcements made to the spine and front hinge. Marks tot he boards. Internally firmly bound.
