1899biblio628<p>This is a clean rough-edged copy of one of the original copies---the first 48 pages paginated by some previous person then printer paginated to page 104 then an inlaid note from the author in which he introduces the appendix mentioned below---of Noyes' Deer Isle Ancestry one of THE source books of Maine geneology. It includes a 19 page appendix that may be foreshortened ending with Deacon Caleb Haskell's Revolutionary War diary with the date May 17 1776. There is no evidence of any pages missing however appendix or other text. Photos on request.</p> self-published hardcover

Otherwise pages clean and free of marking soiling or staining. All page edges gilt. Gilt bright. Bound in contemporary full black calf with gilt rolled borders to both boards and gilt dentelles. The spine has four false raised bands with gilt decoration and additional gilt decoration at the head and tail of the spine. Spine also has gilt title "Chapel Services". Owner's name in gilt to front cover. Very light shelf wear to edges and corners. King's Chapel is the oldest church in America with continuous weekly worship services. Its liturgy is a unique hybrid that reflects this history largely based upon the 1662 English Book of Common Prayer . This copy is complete with the readings occasional services and catechism that were apparently unknown to Griffiths. Bound with: The Psalms of David Printed from the Book of Common Prayer. London: Printed by George E. Eyre and William Spottiswoode n.d. c. 1867. Psalms with separate title page and register. Unpaginated. Collates as: A-F in 16s G 4 leaves. Psalms printed within rules with headpiece. A few pages with scattered light foxing. Otherwise the pages are bight and clean and free from marking soiling or staining. All page edges brightly gilt. Bound in contemporary full black pebble grained morocco with triple blind rules to covers. Front cover with gilt title. Spine with five compartments separated by false raised bands. Spine ends chipped and extremities lightly worn. Front cover professionally reattached with reversible Japanese tissue. An clean and attractive copy of this extremely rare proof copy of the Evangelical proposal for revision of the English BCP. During the last half of the 19th Century there was resurgence of Anglo-Catholic practice in the Church of England. Some clergy incorporated liturgical forms from the medieval Sarum rite or contemporary Roman Catholic rites and several Anglo-Catholic devotionals were published for use by Anglo-Catholic clergy. In response several Evangelicals proposed reforms to the Book of Common Prayer. A Royal Commission on Ritual was appointed in 1867 which produced four reports over the following three years. A quite-handsome Very Good or better; small-scale peripheral scuffing a crack at the front hinge which is nonetheless still quite stoutly integral modest toning to the pages inside and really not much else to point to; clasp as noted was removed by the original owner one Emilie A. 18534624London: William Pickering 1853. First edition thus. An ornate reprint of the book of Common Prayer of Queen Elizabeth. This is a reprint of the 1569 prayer book but brought up to date with prayers for the Restoration of the Royal Family Prayers for Charles the Martyr and prayers for Queen Victoria included. The Ornate binding is a little dulled and rubbed but still attractive. Label lacking so only shows the imprint. Unfortunately the title page and frontis engraving of Elizabeth are also lacking both are supplied in photocopy. The book thus begins with the contents page. The contents page is marked and with crayon. Otherwise the pages are clean but a touch of darkening. Apart from the loss of title the book is in decent condition. The final leaf has some ink staining. It would seem that the book has been re-cased without the missing leaves as there is no sign of loss. Bears the bookplate of Stephen Lewin of Boston. Possibly the architect and town planner from Boston Lincolnshire. Mary Byfield of the Chiswick Press cut the blocks of this ornate and attractive book of Common Prayer. Unpaginated. a-AA5. 180 by 130mm 7 by 5 inches. . Première édition. Une réimpression ornée du livre de prières communes de la reine Élisabeth. Il s'agit d'une réimpression du livre de prières de 1569 mais mise à jour avec des prières pour la restauration de la famille royale des prières pour Charles le Martyr et des prières pour la reine Victoria. La reliure ornée est un peu ternie et frottée mais reste attrayante. L'étiquette est manquante et ne montre donc que l'empreinte. Malheureusement la page de titre et la gravure frontispice d'Elizabeth manquent également les deux sont fournies en photocopie. Le livre commence donc par la page de garde. La page de garde est marquée et comporte des crayons de couleur. Sinon les pages sont propres mais il y a un peu de noircissement. Hormis la perte du titre le livre est en bon état. Le dernier feuillet présente quelques taches d'encre. Il semblerait que le livre ait été ré-encadré sans les feuilles manquantes car il n'y a pas de signe de perte. Porte l'ex-libris de Stephen Lewin de Boston. Peut-être l'architecte et urbaniste de Boston Lincolnshire. William Mudge was appointed in 1791 to the ordnance trigonometrical survey and became superintendent of the survey in 1798 and in that same year was also elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society. Shortly afterwards he completed the first ever measurement of an arc of meridian stretching from Dunnose on the Isle of Wight to Clifton in Yorkshire. This was regarded as a very considerable advance in the scientific work of what had by then become the Ordnance Survey and contributed significantly to the international debate about the precise figure of the earth. </em> unknown
