Legitimised by the recto of frontispiece which states 'published by authority'. The note observes that this edition is printed on fine paper with a copper-plate frontispiece and title page. The statement is then signed by William Bent the proprietor and publisher of this work. In two parts this work is a guide to the week for Christians and includes prayers hymns as well an altar companion. In a full calf binding. Externally heavily rubbed to the boards and spine. Loss to the extremities and to the head and tail of spine. Loss to the tail of the rear joint. Crack to the tail of spine. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front free endpaper dated 1802. Internally firmly bound. Pages are age toned mostly to edges/ Pages 135-142 of part I are severely age toned with marks to pages. The occasional handling mark to pages and light spotting throughout. Text in Spanish translated from the French. 18th-century Spanish vellum ms. title to spine Jacobo 2o; lacking ties but internally clean and bright. <br/><br/>Spanish imprint of the biography of James II of England published during the last of the Jacobite uprisings. Forced out of power in the Glorious Revolution of 1688 and defeated in the subsequent battle of the Boyne by William of Orange the short reign of James II has an importance that reaches far beyond his three years in power. He died in 1701 in exile at the Palace of St. Germain in France and remains to be one of the most complex and intriguing persons of history. An ardent Roman Catholic his efforts to return England to the Catholic faith continue to resonate to this day in Northern Ireland. The Jacobite uprisings were a series of rebellions and wars in Great Britain and Ireland occurring from 1688 to 1746. The aim of the later uprisings was to return the House of Stuart and the descendants of James II to the throne of Great Britain after being deposed by Parliament during the Glorious Revolution. This biography of James II was printed in the last year of the major Jacobite uprising known as the The Forty Five. It was an intense time to show partisanship and effectively Jacobitism ended here as a serious political force in Britain. 1775000855England 1775. On offer is an original LS by English King George III dated 3 January 1775 a mere six days before Parliament declared Massachusetts in a state of rebellion. On March 23 Patrick Henry gives the "Give me or give me Death" speech and on 19 April came the first shots on Lexington Green. King George III King of England 1760 - 1820 he supported the policy which led to war with and the loss of the American colonies sends his cousin to Princess Abbess at Gardersheim Germany his profuse best wishes for the New Year. Signed "George R" one page both sides 8 x 12.5 which reads in part: "You have our most sincere thanks for the pleasant mark that your dear Love has given us at this time of change to a New Year of your friendly disposition toward us. We reciprocate the same and would express the sincere wish that Your dear Love may have begun the New Year Pleasantly and may pass it in uninterrupted enjoyment of unalloyed prosperity.George R." In fine condition with remnants of previous matting to the lower corners. As King George's III grandfather George I came over directly from Germany George III spoke and wrote German in which this letter is written. Comes with a full translation. VG. Very Good. 171757698History of Kent. c.1717. A delightful map showing the beacons of Kent above which there is a view of a church called the 'Reculvers in Kent'. Shield with dedication to Mr Richard Mount 'Citizen and Stationer of London Native of Kent'. Before accurate maps were available people used to navigate by prominent landmarks such as hills standing stones and later Church towers and spires. Hills were used for a vast communications network of fire beacons. This map was based on that by William Lambarde published in 1596 in his "Perambulation of Kent" called "A Carde of the Beacons in Kent".
