Notes: Makeup: front free endpaper followed by 3 unsigned leaves title page dedication page "Catalogue of all Cases" then Signatures: a-c4 B-E2 f-h4 G-Z4 A2-Zz4 Aa2-Xxx4 followed by 2 leaves "A table of Texts of Scripture" and "Table of Those Authors Who are Cited in this Book" and a final free endpaper. Provenance: "The Hope Trust" Edinburgh. English Dissenters: Protestant Christians who disagreed in opinion belief and other matters and separated from the Church of England in the 17th and 18th centuries. Many emigrated to the "New World" especially to British colonies the Thirteen Colonies on the Atlantic coast of North America and also to Canada. It is considered by many that English dissenters played a key role in the spiritual development of the United States. This spirit of independence initially born of the determination to achieve independence in conduct of religious observance gave rise eventually to the American Revolutionary War of 1775 and subsequent independence in 1776. This book was the first digest of the London's laws and guide to its courts after the revisions of the city laws from 1647 and 1658. A useful work that gathered a great deal of disparate information it is a valuable resource today for students of seventeenth-century London and its legal system. Leather has rubbed at corners along edges and at the front hinge. Lowest hub of spine flattened. General wear. Pages are toned small stains throughout. Some foxing. Page 225-226 is missing the very edge of the margin- no text is affected. Occasional script from prior owners all in hand superior to that of modern times. Front blank has petite inscription to a mother from her son. <br /> <br /> Front paste-down endpaper bears bookplate for Genevieve Ludlow Griscom pseudonym Cavé New York Theosophist whom built a mansion in the Bronx for Christ upon his return. VANDEN AVELE 2 signed and JAN LUYKENone signedone with 2-inch tear repaired some minor marginal wear. Original marbled wrappers old paper cover label; cloth folding case. VERY RARE print series illustrating the history of the ascension to the throne of WILLIAM III 1650-1702 and MARY II 1662-1694. The series begins with the Seven Bishops being brought to the Tower of London with a view up the Thames followed by the birth of the Prince of Wales on 10 June 1688 through the entrance of William and Mary into The Hague on 5 February 1691. The series contains several scenes devoted to the festivities surrounding their coronation in London on 11 April 1689. This set of the engravings correspond to Landwehr and appear to have been issued in its original binding without the text; the title-page may have been removed or was not included. AN IMPORTANT ISSUE REPORTING William of Orange landed at Brixham in Devon with an invasion force on November 5th 1688 that deposed of James II of England and James VI of Scotland. The unfolding events are dramatically reported in the opening paragraph of this rare surviving original edition of the London Gazette. The worlds first newspaper.
