The first is Golwg ar y Cyfammodgras or View on the Covenant of Grace or Holy Scriptures by Thomas Boston this is the second edition that has been translated into Welsh by D. Williams. The second volume is Cynnorthwy i Ymdeithwyr Seion or Assistant to Zion Walkers in relation to religion by Robert Hall which came from the second edition in English and translated into Welsh. In suede binding. Externally smart with light rubbing to the spine label and head of the spine. Cunard Line folding brochure advertising the steamship routes from Europe to the United States during the time of the late 1870s famine in Ireland. The Notice states that passengers would be issued tickets only on deposit of $25 in gold.<br /> <br /> The Cunard fleet is listed as well as agencies in Europe and the US and with a New York agent printed at the bottom: "C. G. Franklyn 4 Bowling Green New York'. Illustrated with a "track chart" showing the steam ship routes across the Atlantic and a triple panel center spread showing the cabin plan of the steam ship "Gallia" both the main and spar decks. Illustrated with a lithograph of the Gallia highlighted in red at the rear cover. <br /> <br /> Immigration to Boston and New York from Ireland exploded in the 1840s and 1850s due to the famine with at least 20000 immigrants yearly due to subsidized immigration from Britain on the Cunard Line. The trans Atlantic fares were in the $17 to $20 range; most immigrants had no further money and many remained in Boston and New York rather than relocating. By 1850 75% of the foreign born residents of Boston were Irish.<br /> <br /> 6 x 3 1/2" folded 17 1/4 x 3 1/2" unfolded. The Major & Knapp Lith. Co unknown

Wrappers and paper stock showing some light soiling but otherwise a very good copy. The director of the Athenaeum Alfred Ordway and his committee consisting of Edward C. Cabot Charles Codman and G. Howland Shaw put this exhibition together from the collections of the Athenaeum and perhaps more importantly from the private collections that were being built at mid-century in Boston. The catalogue contains 67 select pieces of sculpture many with annotations and 334 paintings drawings and watercolors each with the donor's name attached. The pamphlets offers a good look at the collecting patterns of the Boston elite and the names Adams Beecher Burgess Kemble Perkins Sharpe Tompkins are Boston notables that are repeated as owners of items throughout the catalogue. .
