Most of the pamphlet is devoted to the bill for a Hoboken and Newark railroad and the dispute between the Camden and Amboy Railroad Company and the New Jersey Railroad Company." An appealing stereocard image showing several long stretches of railroad track heading into the small town of Ogden Utah. It is a view of an important point crossing point in American railroad history as Ogden is the point at which the Union Pacific Railroad ends and the Central Pacific begins. A train can be seen on the tracks in the far distance as well as a few clapboard buildings. The New York photographic firm of E. & H.T. Anthony & Co. produced several stereoscopic views for the Central Pacific Railroad though few are known today. A nice image of an important railroad intersection. E. & H.T. The railroad uses this pamphlet to help recoup some of its investment by selling land to immigrants and settlers. It tells prospective immigrants when to settle benefits of raising livestock in this area conditions for land purchases and the type of accommodations they can expect on arrival. It also informs people that prospective settlers can get free transportation and that soldiers and sailors can get free houses. Basically this pamphlet tells a person everything they need to know about getting land in this territory. The map on the back of the rear wrapper covers most of the United States. Bates and Philander Washburn and also by Josiah Smith as Chairman of C. Commissioners. Signed in ink at the bottom: "A true copy / attest Branch Harlow / Shff." Petition requesting the commissioners to adjudicate damages caused to landowners from a proposed road from Middleborough through parts of Rochester and Wareham listing the names of about 100 interested parties. The petition was apparently successful: a 15 mile line was opened by the company between Middleborough and Wareham in 1848 and extended another 13 miles to Sandwich the same year. The Cape Cod Branch subsequently merged with the Old Colony and Newport Railway to form the Old Colony Railroad in 1872. Not in OCLC. <br/><br/> April 17 unknown books

The goal of this bill in the House of Representatives was to connect the Atlantic and Pacific with a railroad. Specifically this undertaking was to construct a railroad and electric telegraph from the Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean. Whitney seems to have played a critical role in this process and started to work on the railroad project as early as 1841. The pamphlet contains a lot of information on early railroad issues especially imports and exports. books

The map which was printed by Baker of Chicago and then married with the text prior to issue at St. Paul delineates the extent of the rail lines in Minnesota with the trunk projected to beyond the Canadian border and branches to Sioux City Superior etc. Included are estimates of profits to be accrued from tonnage as well as the eventual sale of the granted lands. This railroad seems to been relatively short running from the Connecticut border south of Longmeadow Massachusetts to East Hartford. At the final 1887 meetings of the stockholders and directors recorded in this minute book the Company appeared to be facing a foreclosure suit by the Connecticut State Treasurer. The railroad appears to have ceased in 1887. <br/><br/> hardcover books

Withal still about very good. A rare pamphlet promoting a major Mexican railroad company with plans to build a line across Mexico to the Pacific Ocean. The by- laws are statutes of the railroad are given its capitalization is discussed and the officers listed. Mariano Riva Palacio was the President of the railroad company and Edmundo Stephenson whose name appears at the end of this report is listed as the Vice President. Mariano Riva Palacio was a prominent Mexican statesman with a distinguished record of political and economic reform. He served as governor of the State of Mexico several times and though an ardent republican defended the Emperor Maximilian at Queretero.
