Includes copies of letters to two different publications seeking to have his piece published. Also includes copies of source material and photos. Mercury Aviation Company was one of the first commercial airline services founded in 1919 by Cecil B. DeMille. DeMille Hollywood American film director and producer was one of the first to see the aircraft's potential in commercial airline service. At first Mercury Aviation flew World War I surplus Curtiss JN-4 Jenny for sightseeing and charter flights from DeMille Field No. 1 and then later purchased passenger planes. DeMille restored a World War I plane in 1917. Mercury Aviation Company did not make a profit and closed in 1922 after two years of operation. Al Wilson was DeMille's flight instructor and became the manager of the company for a short time. unknown

Roig requests that Saltford Florist "Please send flowering plant on Saturday 21st inst. . with card enclosed herewith." Signed "Harold J Roig". The flower shop's stamp dated April 19th indicates that the order was paid for with a couple of pencil markings. Near fine.</p><p>The American businessman Harold J. Roig 1886-1972 was Vice Chairman of the W.R. Grace & Co. by the time he retired in 1950. He'd first joined this international industrial company as counsel in 1915 and organized its legal department. A graduate of Cornell and Columbia Law School he was a member of numerous associations and several exchanges. He was a member and secretary of the Government agency that regulated the supplies of Chilean nitrate of soda during WWI and following the war was put in charge of Grace's Chilean nitrate sales. He took part in establishing Grace National Bank. In his role with Grace he was a pioneer in commercial aviation in South America being instrumental in the establishment of Panagra Pan American Grace Airways which flew the first U.S. certified route to Buenos Aires by way of South America's West Coast.</p> Delray Beach, Florida, April 16, 1957.
