The two chapters "Kiswahili" and "The Wambulu people" were written by Richard L. Sutton Jr. Inscribed and signed by the author to Dr. William J. Mayo founder of the Mayo Clinic stamp of Dr. Mayo who then inscribes it as a gift to Dr. Donald C. Balfour. His expertise at the Mayo Clinic was on gastrointestinal surgery becoming the Director of the Department of Surgery in 1937 and a charter member of the World. Bound in orange cloth pictorially stamped and lettering in gilt spine lettering gilt endpapers are maps. A lovely near fine copy. C.V. Mosby Company unknown

Some light foxing to the endpapers. The book is split at the hinges between pages 304-305. Two unused 1947 three cent postage stamps have stuck to page 339 inside margin area . Textblock edges have a touch of foxing. Moderate shelf/edge wear dust soiling and chipping to original unclipped DJ - now in mylar. Illustrations by Pelagie Doane. Front DJ flap reads 50/50 at top and 100/150 at bottom. Lavender endpapers with line drawings. Back panel of DJ lists Nancy Drew to The Mystery At The Quest Of The Missing Map published in 1942. The interior list of titles goes to this title inside the book and at the front DJ flap. The rear DJ flap lists Beverly's Quest published in 1942. Rear inside cover has the bookstore stamp of the famous and sadly long gone Hudsons Book Shop which was a part of the Hudsons Department Store of Detroit Michigan. This is the 15th book in a series of 38. Per AXE this is binding variant II with good paper lavender endpapers and plain frontispiece. DJ is Variant A. See my photos to come. The Judy Bolton Mystery Series written by Margaret Sutton follows a realistic young woman who solves mysteries. Although the series was not quite as popular as Nancy Drew Judy Bolton has been called a more complex and believable role model for girls. Judy was also unique in that halfway through the series she married something series book heroines rarely if ever did The 38-volume series was written from 1932 and 1967 and is the longest-lasting juvenile mystery series written by an individual author.
