First edition. 12mo xv 215 iv pages publisher's embossed blue cloth half-inch chip at head of spine some waterstain in gutter foxing

In 1852 Trall founded the New York Hygieo-Therapeutic College the first medical school to admit women on equal terms with men. Trall was influenced by Sylvester Graham and Isaac Jennings M.D. who taught that the body is governed by natural laws originating from God and verified by observation. . Once the causes were removed the body tended to heal itself. Trall maintained that drugs harmed the body; they did not act upon the body but the body acted upon the drugs. For example a laxative drug seemed to work only because the body rejected it. The drug itself did not cause the bowels to work - International Vegetarian Union. This work is for people who cannot go to a gymnasium nor hire a trainer. With illustrations for each activity. Fowler and Wells hardcover

"This book on OBSTETRICS is the first and ONLY COMPLETE book on this subject ever sold by subscription. In order that it might not attract the attention of children and yeet be perused by all and placed either on the table or in the library we had the illustrations left out and bound into a chart which will be delivered to the subscriber with the complte book. . To do this involves much more expense on the part of the publishers but it gives great satisfaction as the chart can be hidden away from youngsters and used as a private study by rightful parties when reference is necesary. A Persual of this CHART in connection with the book may be the means of saving the lives of dear ones as well as a great deal of expense." American Publishing House hardcover
