With a double-spread colour map and black and white photographs throughout. Wrappers creased and a little chafed a corner tips and with a short tear to the fore edge of the rear wrapper. A small area of surface abrasion to the base of two adjacent plate leaves. A somewhat worn copy but still quite crisp internally. The original Matlock entry in the gazetteer has been pasted over with an alternate description as is invariably the case. The third volume in the Shell Guide series and one of the more uncommon. The end of the trail was a time of both accomplishment after a perilous journey and the beginning of new lives in the West though the trail's use declined sharply with the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869. .
