This copy is dated 24 May 1978 and signed in ink by the artist beneath the frontispiece portrait; the handwriting clearly shows the effects of advanced multiple sclerosis the disease that had confined Cant to a wheelchair from the mid-1960s. He died in 1983 at the age of 71; a newspaper obituary is loosely inserted. Elizabeth Young the second daughter of John Young of Macquarie Galleries fame published her later books under her married name Jean Elizabeth Campbell. The auhtor recounts for the first time the history of the Walers their use as army remounts in India the Middle East and southern Africa and their use as sporting horses.
