From Collections Edouard Guillaume "Lotus Alba". Illustrated throughout. A charming novella from Jean Lorrain born Paul Alexandre Martin Duval a French poet and novelist of the Symbolist school. Lorrain was a dedicated disciple of dandyism and spent much of his time amongst the fashionable artistic circles in France as well as contributing to the satirical weekly Le Courrier Francais. Bound in full reverse calf with the original paper wraps bound in. Externally sound with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with small marks to the boards. A crack to the head of the spine with leather coming away from the text block slightly. Internally firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Handsome copy despite a small hole not touching the text at the level of the interior fold of the newspaper. Le Chat noir is a weekly magazine created by Rodolphe Salis and Emile Goudeau published from 1882 to 1897 with the aim of promoting the famous cabaret of the same name of which it served as the memory. The texts recited during the shows were published there. Complete set of Annie Lorrain Smith's catalogue of British lichens including illustrations. Volume I is the second edition from 1918 Volume II is the second edition revised from 1926. Both volumes are in original publisher's cloth binding. Annie Lorrain Smith was a British lichenologist and mycologist. Smith was one of the first women elected Fellows of the Linnaean Society in 1904 and was later a member of their council. She became an OBE in 1934 for contributions in her field. Gold engraved lettering to the spines. Volume I includes 71 monochrome plates and Volume II includes 63. Collated complete. In original publisher's cloth binding. Some bumping to the head and tail of the spines. The head of the spine on vol I has a tear. The back board of vol II is slightly marked. Front hinge of vol II is starting but firm.
