A GREAT PRESENTATION COPY signed and inscribed by author on letterhead of The Poet's Theatre at front to William Matchett Secretary of the Theatre and his wife: 'For Bill and Judy whose affection and collaboration have gone into the lines of this playf this copy more than I am able to admit this first copy. Lyon. At Cambridge in Massacusetts May 1954.' The text of this first copy pruduced nine months before the play was to debut is mostly mimeographed with a few typed leaves and has ink and pencil corrections in the author's hand. Laid in loose is a 3 x 5 inch card with an original poem by Phelps abouit the Matchetts signed and inscribed Christmas 1962. 71193 leaves printed or typed recto only. Bound in original burgundy 3-brad wraps with clear plastic window in upper cover showing title spine faded. Later published by Harvard University Press for the Poets’ Theatre this moving three-act verse play is based on the atmosphere prevalent during the Salem witch days of Puritan New England. It tells the story of family happiness destroyed by the panic of the community. Matchett were both principals at the Poets' Theatre. Lyon Phelps paperback

This unique copy has a superb presentation inscription from the author 'For Billy William Matchett - this copy: not the first but it should be not the last but I wish it were so lest it be thought the middle. Let me add for one who received the MS after dealing with the thing itself the print of play or poem is after the fact - Love Lyon.' In addition there i a marked-out section of text at pages 51/52 and inserted loose to replace it are two typed pages of a substantially larger replacement text inscribed in ink by Lyon at end. Also included is the original folding invitation for the opening at The Poets' Theatre February 14 1955 silkscreen and letterpress as well as the rare poster advertising the British premier of the play by the Makars at the Gateway Theatre Edinburgh 9.5 x 15 inches 2 colors creased at folds with slight wear to edges. 1962605910Sydney: Robert Burton 1962. Unbound. Near Fine. Original Australian daybill movie poster for Stanely Kubrick's film adaptation of Lolita. Measuring approximately 13 ½" x 30". Creased twice from being folded for mailing as issued and some bumping to the corners with some very light toning to the margins still near fine with the illustration clean and bright. Features an illustration of Sue Lyon as Dolores "Lolita" Haze peering over her now iconic heart-shaped sunglasses. The poster states "The book is banned! How did they ever make a movie of Lolita" and at the bottom "Not suitable for children." A disclaimer that unintentionally though rather ironically highlights the misguided production of the film which Nabokov himself was ultimately unhappy with and which had traumatizing real-life consequences for the underage star of the film Sue Lyon who in an awful instance of life imitating art became entangled in a "relationship" with the film's producer a then 32 year-old James Harris. The bright and bold almost pop-art style of the illustration combined with its ironic subtext and unique format makes this an exceptionally novel piece. Robert Burton unknown

19311123031931. Rare half-tone portrait of Canadian golf legend George Lyon. Signed by Lyon "Geo. S. Lyon." Period frame. The entire piece measures 8.25 inches by 5.75 inches. In very good condition. Although he only began playing golf at the age of 38 due to lack of available golf courses in most areas of Canada before that date George Seymour Lyon won the gold medal in golf in the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis Missouri at age 46 only eight years after beginning the sport. He won the Canadian Amateur Championship a record eight times between 1898 and 1914 the last time in his 56th year. He was also runner-up in that event on two further occasions. He won the Canadian Seniors' Golf Association Championship ten times between 1918 and 1930 the final time in his 72nd year; these events were staged before the inauguration of the Canadian Senior Golf Championship by Golf Canada. unknown

Most relevant photos measure around 2½†x 3½†and most are captioned. Album very good with moderate wear; photos generally very good or better. <br /> <br /> This album was compiled by Lyon P. Strean who was originally from Montreal and later was a resident of New Rochelle New York. Strean was an accomplished dentist who also held a doctorate in bacteriology and published over 25 scientific papers throughout his career. He edited a medical journal in Brooklyn and wrote at least two books. <br /> <br /> Strean was active in the Jewish community of Montreal where he was vice-president of Independent Order B’nai B’rith. Mount Royal Lodge. No. 729 and was later president of the Westchester New York Lodge. A clipping in the album shows that he was also secretary of the New Rochelle chapter of the Zionist Organization of America. Over half the album includes family photos and news clippings which cover a brief period of Strean's career. <br /> <br /> Importantly a 14-page section is entitled “Remembrances From the Israeli War of Liberation May 15-Sept 1 1948. Yomim Hazikoron†and holds 87 photos taken in Israel. A full-page clipping in the album shared that Strean was in Israel for three months as a consultant to the Israeli government on public health. He gave a talk stateside where he described conditions in Jerusalem when the city was cut off from supplies and how he was involved in testing 24000 refugees for sexually transmitted diseases. That article also mentioned that Strean had slides made of pictures taken in Israel to go along with his talks. <br /> <br /> There are many images of Rehovot including birdseye views the synagogue a shot of people milling about in a market and one shows bomb damage. Other images of war include people rationing water an air-raid shelter a view of “No Man's Land†and streets with road blocks. There's a shot of a Displaced Persons camp one of a demolished building with the caption “War in Israel 1948†and another captioned “Bus Station-Tel Aviv. Bombed at 6 p.m. 130 killed.†At least nine photos are celebratory and depict parades and rallies at a stadium for Independence Day. Other photos include several great street scenes in Haifa and a birdseye view of the city and seaport from Mt. Carmal. There are also a number of images in Jerusalem including the King David Hotel several in Tel Aviv and several of kibbutzim. <br /> <br /> A lively and well captioned album with many images of Israel soon after it achieved statehood. unknown
