Louis Auguste de Sainson 1800-1877 was a French artist lithographer and engraver. He worked as a draughtsman on the Astrolabe in its circumnavigation of the globe in 1826-1829 and then spent almost 5 years to create the prints for the publication of its expedition narrative. The engravings from the original drawings after Laplace and others include a wonderful view of Manila a picturesque Honolulu a chillingly grim view of the penal colony at Port Arthur Van Diemen's Land /Tasmania; and the 'Artémis' run aground at Papeete Tahiti; The introductory text by Henricy places each engraving in the context of the route taken by the 'Artémis' which visited Sydney as well as Hobart. Accompanied by a modest-sized 14 x 22 cm. 2-page holograph letter dated 17th January 1867 and written by L. A. Chamerovzow Secretary of the Sub-Committee of the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society one of the Societies proposing that the 1867 Conference be organized and held. The invitation is short on details. The unnamed recipient of the letter is: 1 requested to advise as to whether they planned to attend the Conference; 2 advised that Mr. Cook presumably Thomas Cook of the well-known firm for travelers can be contacted to secure help with accommodations; and 3 told that delegates might be sought from those already planning to attend the Great Paris Exhibition in 1867. unknown

Includes all eight of the <i>chansons.</i></p><p>The famous chanson de geste in 9000 lines known in a version of a lost original composed about 1180 and attributed to Richard le Pèlerin a pilgrim who was on the spot and began composition during the siege of Antioch inspired by the events of 1097–99. The climax of the First Crusade the conquest of Antioch and Jerusalem laid the foundations of the Crusader states. The <i>Chanson</i> was elaborated and to a degree mythologized and became part of the Crusader cycle of romances popular in the 14th century.</p><p>The <i>Chanson</i> was pretty much forgotten until it was printed and published in 1848 during the Gothic Revival by the French scholar and medievalist Alexis Paulin Paris 1800-1881 the first holder of the chair of Medieval literature at the Collège de France</p> J Techener hardcover
