1992MC-2Kranzberg Germany: Pilz CD 1992. "Die verkaufte Braut" "The Bartered Bride" or "The Sold Bride" one of the most successful and beautiful of modern operas was first produced in 1895. Its overture was first known as "Lustspiel" or "Comedy Overture" and is considered the gem of the work. The story of the opera is a simple one. Hans the step-son of the peasant Micha after being driven from home returns and falls in love with Marenka. Her mother consents to the proposal of Kezal the marriage broker that she shall marry Wenzel Hans half-brother. Then the broker offers a bribe to Hans if he will abandon his claim. Hans agrees provided Marenka will marry "the son of Micha." Marenka is grieved at the seeming abandonment but at last Hans reveals himself and all are happy. The symphonic poems of "My Fatherland" are all closely connected with Czech landscape and culture. CD 1 contains The Bartered Bride Memory of Pilsen Libusa: Overture String Quartet No. 1 E minor "From My Life"; performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra Prague conductor Libor Pesek. CD 2 contains My Fatherland; performed by the Czechoslovakian State Philharmony Prague conductor Libor Pesek; and Philharmonia Slavonica conductor Denis Zsoltay. Audsley wrote numerous magazine articles on the organ and as early as the 1880s was envisioning huge instruments with numerous divisions each under separate expression in imitation of the symphony orchestra. The Los Angeles Art Organ Co. successors to the Murray M. Harris Organ Company had Audsley design the world's largest organ they were building for the St. Louis Exposition of 1904 and included him on the paid staff. This instrument was produced just as his book on The Art of Organ-Building was being published This great pipe organ eventually was purchased for the John Wanamaker Store in Philadelphia PA where it is today known as the Wanamaker Organ. In 1905 Audsley published the monumental two-volume The Art of Organ Building as an attempt to position himself as the pre-eminent organ designer in the US. The lavish work includes numerous superb drawings done by Audsley and is still consulted today although organ fashions have evolved in many directions in the ever-fluid passion-driven world of music. He was an early advocate of console standardization and radiating concave pedal keyboards to accommodate the natural movement of human legs. Unfortunately his plan to develop the profession of "organ architect" as a consultant to work in consultation with major builders in achieving a high-art product was short-lived." from Wikipedia Due to the extreme weight of this book postage will have to be determined at time of ordering. ; Signed by Author .
