Folding plates bound at rear we have also encountered the color folding plate bound as a frontis interleaved with "description of plates". Boards damp stained faint marginal damp staining to upper corner of pgs. 50-57 front endpaper scuffed else clean and sound with bright plates. Very good. <br /> <br /> Scarce first edition of this book which illustrated with historical context a novel approach to the removal of bladder stones; the "high operation" being a suprapubic lithotomy not commonly done at the time. This challenging disease at the time became more operable for surgeons moving forward in part thanks to this work.<br /> <br /> Joseph Constantine Carpue 1764-1846 was also known as being the first English surgeon to successfully perform a rhinoplasty becoming a pioneer in the field of modern plastic surgery.
